2.2. DESCRIPTION AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS
2.2.1. DESCRIPTION
The variable height self-loading stretcher MERCURY is intended for the transport of patients in cases of first aid and medical
emergency, and can also hold the patient after the stretcher has been attached to the support system fitted inside the vehicle.
Both models consist of a strong carrying structure in steel, connected to the wheels by four legs that can be folded in half by two
mechanical pistons, to enable the stretcher to be placed in and removed from the ambulance.
To the structure is fixed a rigid platform in a plastic material, consisting of a backrest, a central part to support the gluteal area, and the
footrest.
At the head end there is a fixed system for inserting the stretcher into the ambulance with variable loading heights, while at the foot end
there are two control levers for folding the legs.
The stretcher also has three handles of which two are completely foldable side handles and one is a fixed handle at the foot end.
It is also possible to lower the stretcher to an intermediate height, to facilitate the work of the ambulance personnel while the patient is
being transported.
The geometry and the position of the controls, which are quick-release levers, are ergonomic and enable the ambulance personnel to
carry out various operations efficiently and in security, and maintain control of the stretcher at all times, while the pneumatic systems
enable the rapid and precise adjustment of the stretcher.
Finally, other optional accessories can be used with the stretcher, such as drip-stands, bags of liquids and/or cylinder stands and
equipment for traction or for blocking the lower limbs.
The use of quality materials, the technology used and the experience of ME.BER. have made possible the construction of an extremely
reliable medical apparatus with innovative features.
2.2.2. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS (figure 2)
Bearing structure:
in stainless steel for items 7070 e 7072 and in powder-painted steel in the case of items 7076 e 7078, it is
able to absorb stresses arising from accidental occurrences to the vehicle, up to accelerations and
decelerations of 10g (see § 3.1.1);
in reinforced polythene can be used in various positions for the patient's comfort or to facilitate the work of
Rigid backrest:
medical and paramedical personnel, in particular for cardiopulmonary resuscitation; the backrest can be
adjusted from 0 to 80° extremely rapidly and precisely by gas springs;
in plastic can be placed in various positions for the patient's comfort or to facilitate the work of medical and
Rigid platform:
paramedical personnel; while the footrest can be placed in the "Trendelenburg" position. The surfaces of the
platform are easily cleaned and meet the necessary hygienic standards. On the platform there are slots to
enable the fixing of a mattress.
Four legs
two front and two rear, are linked by sliding mechanical pistons on each shaft that make it possible to fold
them;
Buffers:
in hard-wearing plastic and two Ø 60 mm wheels on the rear legs are fixed to make it possible to slide the
stretcher along the loading floor of the vehicle, thus making it easy to load the stretcher and to protect the
patient's legs from bumps.
Four wheels:
of 200 mm diameter, two on the front legs and fitted with a handbrake, and two on the rear legs that revolve
through 360°, give the stretcher a high degree of manoeuvrability and make it easy to deal with surface
irregularities.
Loading system
consists of two pairs of fixed wheels of different diameters (2 of Ø125mm and. 2 of Ø100mm) that facilitate
the loading of the stretcher into the ambulance, with variable loading heights. The trolley can also be folded
to reduce its overall length for use in confined spaces.
Two side rails:
completely foldable to facilitate transferring the patient on and off the stretcher and to ensure a safe transfer;
Foot rails:
is securely attached to the rear tube to prevent the mattress sliding and to provide minimal protection for the
patient's feet;
Mushroom screw:
in high resistance steel is welded to the central frame and makes possible the simple and rapid anchoring of
the stretcher to the fixing system 10g certified (art. 955 proof) in the ambulance;
Certified safety belts:
supplied with the stretcher make it possible to secure either the patient or the mattress safely on the
stretcher in three places (back, thighs and feet); the safety belts are each supplied in two sections that can
be connected by a rapid release system.
