C. Partial lowering of the stretcher
This operation can be carried out even with the patient on the stretcher.
To lower the stretcher to the intermediate height, starting from the maximum height, follow the stages (for the number and type of
operators see § 3.3.):
1. position yourselves at the ends of the stretcher (foot end and head end – figure 11);
2. with the palms of your hands facing downwards, take hold of the ends of the tubular section of the structure next to the control
lever;
3. at the foot end, with your right hand use the red security lever and with your left hand use the red lever to release the rear legs:
4. at the head end, with your left or right hand use the regulating lever (fig. 4 – letter E) which moves the front legs;
5. lower the stretcher to the intermediate height, which can be identified by the blocking mechanism connected to the lever at the
head end;
6. then release the control levers.
To raise the stretcher from the intermediate position to the maximum height, follow the stages described at point A.
D. Adjusting the inclination of the backrest
The inclination of the backrest can be adjusted from the horizontal position to the vertical depending on the patient's requirements.
Proceed in the following sequence:
1. with the right hand, push the adjustment lever (figure 6 – letter G, colour red) in the direction shown to release the mechanism;
2. with the other hand, take hold of the upper part of the backrest and position it at the inclination desired (it can be positioned at
any point between 0 e 80°);
To raise the backrest it is sufficient to let it move, while to lower it you must push it strongly downwards
3. release the lever to secure the backrest automatically.
E. Adjusting the position of the footrest
The footrest can be adjusted to assume the "Trendelenburg" position.
The "Trendelenburg" position makes it possible to keep the patient's legs raised in a way that increases the flow of blood to the vital
organs. To attain this position, start from the horizontal position of the footrest; then follow the stages:
with one hand, push the adjustment lever (figure 3 – letter D, colour red) at the foot end towards the centre to release the
1.
mechanism;
2.
with the other hand, take hold of the platform and set it at the inclination desired, taking care to release the lever to enable the
mechanism to secure itself in position (it can be fixed at any point up to approximately 20° with infinite adjustment).
It is recommended, whenever possible, to perform this adjustment before placing the patient on the stretcher, to
make such operations easier.

4.4.2. PLACING THE PATIENT ON THE STRETCHER

To remove the patient from the stretcher, or move him on it, use the approved medical emergency
techniques.
To place the patient on the stretcher it is necessary to:
1.
first place the mattress on the stretcher;
2.
then attach it to the backrest and footrest (thigh and feett areas) by passing the belts through the slots in the mattress an d the
central slots in the backrest and footrest;
lower the side handle on the patient's side;
3.
4.
place the patient on the stretcher;
5.
raise the side handle and immobilize it with the safety belts supplied (see the next point);
for the torso section the belt must be positioned about the middle of the backrest, and fastened to four points on the
frame:two on the upper part, two on either side of the backrest.Secure the patient's torso with the belt and adjust it tightly;
for the leg section (thighs and feet) the belts must be positioned on the feet support and fastened to the frame as in the
previous case. Secure the patient's legs and feet with the belts and adjust them tightly;
if transporting children, adjust the belts to minimum length and move the thigh and feet belts to the patient's legs and feet.
6.
adjust the backrest and the footrest appropriately, given the position that the patient will have to assume (see preceding points);
7.
if necessary, attach supplementary equipment to the frame (§ 7.2.).
