Checking the sun path for obstructions

The solar panels must be installed in an open area that will receive unobstructed sunlight
throughout the day all year round.
Once you have chosen the location for your solar system, check that it is not obstructed by
shadow during the course of the day due to the path of the sun.
1.
On a clear day, stand at the exact spot where the solar system is to be installed.
In winter, the sun rises in the south-east and sets in the south-west.
In summer, the sun rises in the north-east and sets in the north-west.
2.
Using a compass as a guide, look toward the horizon due east of your position. Then
turn and look to the horizon due west of your position (see Figure 3-2).
3.
Make sure that the path of sunlight to your solar system is not obstructed between
9 a.m. and 6 p.m. during both summer and winter. Also consider the possible
obstruction that buildings and trees may cause in future.
