Selecting a Sensor

The VS1 monitor uses Nellcor
with the VS1 monitor. To obtain accurate measurements, you must select the appropriate sensor for each
patient. The following table lists the sensors and their recommended usage.

Placing the Reusable Sensor

The Dura-Sensor DS-100A sensor is for adult patients who weigh more than 88 lbs (40 kg). Put the DS-
100A on the forefinger, placing the finger far enough into the sensor that the nail comes in contact with the
back. Make sure that the clamping strength of the probe is not so tight that perfusion is affected.
Warning
The monitoring site must be checked every four hours and the sensor repositioned.
The nasal OxiMax sensor cannot be reused.
If the finger is put too far into the sensor, the fingertip may be compressed and may cause necrosis.
Never use surgical tape to secure the probe in place.
Be alert to low thermal burns on peripheral circulation disorder patients who are monitored
continuously for extended periods.

Reusable sensor. Use on adults weighing over 88 lbs (40kg).
Disposable adhesive sensor. Use on adults weighing over 66 lbs (30kg).
Disposable adhesive sensor. Same as MAX-A sensor, but has a longer cable (36").
Disposable adhesive sensor. For pediatric patients who weigh 22 – 110 lbs (10 – 50 kg).
Disposable adhesive sensor. Use on infants weighing from 7 to 44 lbs (3 – 20 kg).
Disposable adhesive sensor. Use on neonates weighing less than 7 lbs (3 kg). Use on the leg or
arm. Can also be used on the forearm of an adult weighing over 88 lbs (40 kg).
Disposable adhesive nasal sensor. Use on adults weighing over 110 lbs (50 kg).

Disposable adhesive forehead sensor. Use on adults weighing over 88 lbs (40kg).
Reusable multisite sensor. For patients who weigh more than 2 lbs (1 kg). If used with the D-
YSE ear clip, can only be used on patients who weigh more than 66 lbs (30 kg).
