This chapter describes how to load the paper into the recorder and how to use the print options to print
different types of vital signs records.
Loading the Paper
To load paper into the recorder:
Step
Action
1
Determine which side of the paper is the printable side. Use your fingernail to rub the paper; if the paper
marks, the correct side is up.
2
To make insertion of the paper easier, cut or tear the paper straight across the top. (See Figure A.)
3
Press the Power On/Off switch to turn the power on.
4
Open the printer door on the right side of the monitor and insert the roll of paper so that the end comes
from the back over the top of the roll. (See Figure B.)
5
Pull the paper's leading edge out about 10 inches and loop it back into the paper slot. Push the paper
toward the back of the recorder until it catches. After it catches, the printer will automatically grab and
feed the paper. (See Figure C.)
6
Once the paper passes the outer edge of the case, close the paper door and select a print format. The
resulting printout will remove any remaining loop in the paper.

Note—
When tearing off the printout, pull the strip up and toward yourself or up and away from yourself.
Printing Automatically
The VS1 monitor can be configured to print a vital signs record each time a blood pressure or temperature
measurement finishes. If measurements are simultaneous or immediately concurrent, the monitor will wait
until the longest measurement is complete before printing.
