Required materials and tools:
755Z39 Vacuum Gauge (with T-piece)
1) Disconnect the hose from the suction connector of the prosthetic knee joint.
2) Connect the vacuum gauge to the suction connector using the T-piece.
3) Connect the hose to the vacuum gauge.
4) Attach the vacuum gauge to the prosthesis so that the patient is able to move freely.
5) Conduct the dynamic trial fitting. Check the vacuum during trial fitting.
6) Check the system if there are any leaks (see Page 24).
7) Remove the vacuum gauge once testing is complete.

5.5.2 Setting flexion and extension damping

The desired gait pattern is achieved by adjusting the damping behaviour of the prosthetic knee
joint for flexion and extension in the swing phase.
INFORMATION
The valves for flexion and extension are located on the left and right sides of the prosthetic knee
joint.

Required tools and materials:
710H10=2x3 Adjustment Wrench
1) Use the adjustment wrench to set the flexion resistance (see fig. 8).
2) Use the adjustment wrench to set the extension resistance (see fig. 9).
Situation
Lower leg swings through too far
Lower leg does not swing through
sufficiently
Lower leg impact too hard on the
extension stop
Lower leg does not reach full
extension before heel strike

5.5.3 Adjusting stance phase flexion

Stance phase flexion takes place upon heel strike while walking and is controlled by the EBS unit.
A nut is used for pre-compression of the elastomer spring to control the response behaviour.
Hydraulic damping for stance phase extension cannot be changed. The transition to the flexion
movement of the swing phase begins when the ball of the foot makes contact.
INFORMATION
The adjustment nut of the EBS unit is found on the back of the prosthetic knee joint below the
elastomer block.

The patient has been instructed in the functionality of the EBS unit.
1) Check the behaviour of the EBS unit during trial walking.
2) INFORMATION: Reducing the pretension increases knee safety while increasing the
pretension decreases knee safety.
Adjust the pretension of the EBS unit in order to achieve the desired stance phase flexion
behaviour (see fig. 10). Ensure that the pivoting mount does not permanently touch the end
stop while walking.
