5.4.1 Installing the intake hose

The intake hose runs from the suction connector of the vacuum pump to the vacuum connector in
the prosthetic socket. The filter inserted in the hose protects the vacuum pump from contamina
tion.
Installing the filter
1) Cut the hose at the appropriate place (see fig. 11).
2) Connect the filter to the two hose ends (see fig. 12).
Installing the intake hose
1) Align the intake hose in the proximal direction and connect it to the suction connector of the
vacuum pump (see fig. 4).
2) INFORMATION: If a rotation adapter is used, the intake hose has to be longer.
Run the intake hose to the vacuum connector of the prosthetic socket and connect it (see
fig. 5).

5.4.2 Installing the outlet hose

CAUTION
Improper installation of the outlet hose
Skin irritation, formation of eczema or infections due to contamination with germs
Run the outlet hose in such a way that the hose opening is not directed towards parts of the
body or into the cosmetic cover.
The suctioned air and fluids are drained through the outlet hose. Fluids must not be drained onto
metal components of the modular prosthesis. Increasing the length of the outlet hose lowers the
noise level of the vacuum pump.
1) Align the outlet hose in the distal direction and connect it to the corresponding connector on
the vacuum pump (see fig. 6).
2) Optional: Clamp the outlet hose in the hose clamp of the prosthetic knee joint (see fig. 7).
3) If a cosmetic foam cover is used: Make an opening in the cosmetic foam cover and install
the 4Y483 Cosmetic Exhaust Flange.
4) If no cosmetic cover is used: Attach the outlet hose to the prosthesis in a suitable position.
5) Trim any excess outlet hose.

5.5 Dynamic Trial Fitting

CAUTION
Dynamic trial fitting without parallel bars
Fall due to lack of patient experience or functional changes
Perform the dynamic trial fitting using parallel bars when the prosthesis is first used and also
after any change is made to the prosthesis.
CAUTION
Reaching into the area of the joint mechanism
Pinching of limbs (e.g. fingers) and the skin due to uncontrolled joint movement
Do not reach into the joint mechanism during daily use.
Close attention is required during assembly and adjustment tasks.

5.5.1 Checking vacuum generation

The functionality of the vacuum system is verified in the course of dynamic trial fitting. A vacuum
gauge is installed in the system for this purpose.
