Troubleshooting chart
Starting problems or poor
engine performance
There is fuel.
1. Fuel
Check if there is
fuel in the fuel
Some fuel.
tank.
No fuel.
2. Compression
Use the electric
There is compresson.
starter to see if there
is compression.
No compression.
3. Ignition
Wet
Remove the spark plug
and check the electrodes.
Dry
4. Battery
Engine turns over
quickly.
Use the electric
starter
Engine turns over
slowly
Remove the
fuel hose from
the fuel cock.
Turn the fuel
cock to "OFF".
Turn the fuel cock
Restart the engine.
lever to "RES".
Supply fuel.
Compression normal.
Ask a Yamaha dealer to inspect.
Wipe clean with
dry cloth.
Attach spark plug cap
Use the electric
and ground to chassis.

Battery is good.
Check the connections, and charge the battery if necessary.
Turn the fuel cock
Check the fuel
lever to "ON".

Spark good.
Spark weak.
No spark.
Ask a Yamaha dealer to inspect.
