6.3
Test notes
6.3.1 Tests before the first commissioning
Check the protective device as described below and in accordance
with the applicable standards and regulations.
To ensure correct function, test as defined in chapter 6.3.2 "Daily
functional checks of the protective device".
= Number of senders and receivers must match, the distance
between them must not exceed the maximum value given in the
technical specifications.
= Access to the hazardous point must only be possible through the
protective field.
= It must not be possible to climb over, creep underneath or pass
around the protective device.
= Also test the effectiveness of the protective device mounted on the
machine using all selectable operating modes as specified in the
checklist (see chapter 11.2 on page 111). Use this checklist as a
reference before commissioning the system for the first time.
= Make sure that the operating personnel of the machine protected
by the L4000 system are correctly instructed by specialist
personnel before being allowed to operate the machine. Instructing
the operating personnel is the responsibility of the machine owner.
6.3.2 Daily functional checks of the protective device
The effectiveness of the protective device must be checked daily, or
before work is commenced, by a specialist or by authorised
personnel, using the correct test piece.
= Completely cover each light beam with a test piece that is not
transparent (at least 30 mm diameter) at the following positions:
• Directly in front of the sender,
• In the middle between sender and receiver (or the deflector
mirrors),
• Directly in front of the receiver,
• On the usage of deflector mirrors, directly in front of and after the
mirror.
This must produce the following result:
• At the receiver for the related safety photoelectric safety switch
there must be no LED illuminated and
• On the safety evaluation device UE401 only the red LED must
illuminate and
• As long as the light beam is interrupted, it must not be possible to
initiate the dangerous state of the machine.
