ADJUSTMENTS OF THE KNOTMAKERS

CAUTION
KNOTMAKER FOOT (A)
It consists of a shaft ending in a hook shape. Inside this a movable member is
mounted called "tongue" (fig.129).The good state of the knotmaker foot is very
important because that is where the knot is formed. Rough surfaces or burrs
anywhere in the "foot" can compromise the knot. Every burr should be carefully
removed with a file and smoothed with fine sandpaper..
A
PRESSURE ON THE TONGUE OF THE KNOTMAKER FOOT
The pressure on the tongue is exerted by the flat spring, fig.134 in the next page.
In low pressure, the tongue will not pull the thread and the result is an incom-
plete node.
If the pressure is excessive, the tongue does not loosen the knot and the thread
will break up, compromising the mooring bale.

Never attempt to make any adjustment in the
knotmaker with machine on. Always turn off
the PTO and the tractor engine before starting a
regulation.
