Fan Belt
Check the condition of fan belt
Ê.
Replace if worn or damaged.
D
To check fan belt tension:
1. Apply 98 N (22 lbs.) of force at center Ë of span
between fan and alternator. Measurement Ì should
be 10 -12 mm (3/8 -1/2 in.) of belt movement.
To adjust fan belt tension:
A
1. First loosen the 2 bolts (
alternator.
2. Place a handle Í or similar object between the
alternator and engine cylinder block and move
alternator toward outside of engine. Stop when fan
belt conforms to specified tension listed above.
3. Tighten the alternator bolts to maintain tension, and
remove handle.
4. Check tension again, if within specifications, torque
bolts.
A
= 19 Nm (170 in. lbs.)
B
= 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.)
Gasoline Filter
Fig. 3
To replace gasoline filter:
1.
Drain gasoline tank or close shut off valve.
2.
When replacing gasoline filter, ensure clamps are
tight and gasoline flows as shown Ê.
3.
Open gasoline shut off valve.
4.
Start engine.
5.
Check for gasoline leaks.
WARNING
Gasoline can leak out creating a fire / ex
plosion hazard.

Checking Oil Level
Check oil every 8 hours of operation or daily, before starting
engine.
1. Place equipment level and clean around dip stick.
2. Remove dipstick, wipe with clean cloth, insert
FULLY.
3. Remove dipstick and check oil level. Oil should be at
the F" mark Ê.
4. If oil is required, follow Steps 6 thru 11 below.
Fig. 10
Changing Oil / Oil Filter
With engine off, but still warm.
1. Position equipment so that engine oil drain plug is
lowest point on engine.
2. Clean around oil drain plug Ê and oil fill cap Ë, then
remove allowing oil to drain completely.
3. Remove oil filter Ì.
4. Before installing new filter, apply fresh oil to filter
gasket. Reinstall filter by hand, once gasket contacts
adapter tighten 3/4 turn more.
5. Reinstall drain plug, torque to 34.5 Nm (25.5 ft. lbs.).
6. Place equipment level.
See OIL RECOMMENDATIONS section.
Oil capacity:
Max. 3.3 liters (3.50 qts) when changing Oil & Oil Filter
Max. 3.1 liters (3.25 qts) when changing Oil only
Always check oil level with dipstick.
CAUTION
When filling or adding oil.
:
To prevent oil from overrunning into breather and
damaging engine upon start up, proper venting is
necessary.
7. To provide proper venting, remove dipstick and place
on a clean surface. Also maintain a clearance
between the oil fill device and the oil fill hole in the
valve cover.
8. SLOWLY refill with a high quality oil up to F" level.
9. Replace and tighten oil filler cap and dipstick firmly.
10. Run engine at idle for 5 minutes, stop engine, wait
3 minutes, then recheck oil level. If required, add oil
to bring level to F" mark.

Note:
In some areas, local law requires using a resistor
spark plug to suppress ignition signals. If this engine was
originally equipped with resistor spark plug, use same type
of spark plug for replacement.

STORAGE
Engines stored over 30 days need special attention.
1.
To prevent gum from forming in the gasoline system
or on essential carburetor parts the engine needs
special attention.
If fuel tank contains oxygenated or reformulated
D
gasoline (gasoline blended with an alcohol or an
ether), drain all gasoline from the tank into an
approved storage container and then run engine until
it stops from lack of gasoline.
When gasoline is left in the engine a Gasoline
D
Stabilizer additive must be added to the gasoline in the
tank. Run engine for several minutes to circulate the
additive through the carburetor. Then engine with
gasoline can be stored.
If a Gasoline Stabilizer additive is not used. Drain
D
all gasoline from the tank into an approved storage
container and then run engine until it stops from lack of
gasoline.
2.
Change oil. See MAINTENANCE - Oil
3.
Remove spark plugs and pour about 30 cc (1 oz.) of
engine oil into each cylinder. Replace spark plugs
and crank slowly to distribute oil.
4.
Clean engine. See MAINTENANCE - Cleaning
Debris from Engine.
