Lights will illuminate when the starter switch is turned to ON
position, and should be out while engine is running.
CHECK ENGINE IF LIGHTS TURN ON DURING
OPERATION.
1 Engine Oil Pressure Light
- If illuminates during
engine operation, shut down engine immediately. Check oil
level, or electrical system.
2 Battery Charging Condition Light
nates during engine operation, check electrical system.
3 Temperature Light
- If temperature light comes on
or gauge rises into the dangerous range: H = Hot Zone,
above 105° C (220° F), shut down engine immediately.
Once engine is cooled, check for low coolant level,

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Power Ratings
The power ratings for an individual engine model are initially
developed by starting with SAE (Society of Automotive
Engineers) codes J1349 and J1995 (Engine Power &
Torque Rating Procedure). Given both the wide array of
products on which our engines are placed, and the variety of
environmental issues applicable to operating the equipment,
it may be that the engine you have purchased will not
develop the rated horsepower when used in a piece of power
equipment (actual on site" power). This difference is due to
a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the following:
differences in altitude, temperature, barometric pressure,
humidity, fuel, engine lubrication, maximum governed en
gine speed, individual engine to engine variability, design of
the particular piece of power equipment, the manner in
which the engine is operated, engine run in to reduce friction
and clean out of combustion chambers, adjustments to
valves, carburetor and other factors.
Note: Engine operated at approx. 900m (3000ft) or above
sea level may require a high altitude carburetor main jet. If
erratic performance is observed, contact an Authorized
Briggs & Stratton 3/LC Service Dealer.
