Compressed Air Cylinders

9.3.1 Filling

The compressed air cylinders must be filled only with breathable air as defined in EN 12021.
Only tested and approved compressed air cylinders should be used, and which:
show the date of testing and test mark of the competent body (e.g. the TÜV), and an indication of the test
interval, and the test interval time indicated on the cylinder has not been exceeded.
do not show any defects which might cause danger (e.g. a faulty valve).
do not have any visible moisture on the connection thread.
Completely empty compressed air cylinders (depressurised) must be dried out. This step is necessary because
an unacceptable amount of moisture could enter through an open valve. A cylinder can be dried out, for example,
by filling at least twice (up to the permitted filling level) with dry air from a compressor and then allowing the air to
flow out. The air should flow out in such a way that the cooling due to expansion does not cause ice to form on
the valve.

9.3.2 Cylinder Use

Compressed air cylinders should be protected from impacts when transported and stored. To avoid an
unacceptable level of water content in the breathable air, pay attention to the following:
Compressed air cylinders should not be fully drained (depressurised) when used.
Cylinder valves should be closed immediately after use and covered with their protective caps.
Cylinder valves should also be firmly closed immediately after filling, and covered with their protective caps.

9.3.3 Transport and Storage of Cylinders When Not Connected

The cylinder valve should be covered with the protective cap.
When storing, cylinders must be placed in such a way that they cannot tilt, fall over, or move out of position.

9.3.4 Visual Inspection of the Valve

The cylinder valve must be checked for damage by making a visual inspection, e.g. for:
damage to the valve body
GB
damage to the hand wheel
skewing of the valve body
skewing of the valve stem (indicated by a skewed hand wheel)
24
Important
The oxygen content must be in the range 21 ±2 .% by volume (dry air).
