3. Place the return electrode onto the patient.
a. Have the return electrode cable side face toward the radio
frequency generator. Then, place the return electrode
horizontally across the lower portion of the small of the
back directly above the buttocks as shown in Figure 4-6.
b. Apply the return electrode at one edge (Figure 4-7) and
press firmly; smooth to opposite edge so the entire area is
completely attached to the patient's skin.
Warning: Do not place over metal prostheses or monitoring
electrodes. Avoid placement of the return electrode over
scars, bony prominences, or excessive hair. Return
electrodes placed in these areas can affect circuit impedance.
This can result in low system output, failure of the system to
function properly, or patient injury (eg, burns).
