START-UP

Fig. 1: Place the machine level on the work bench (see par. 6.3.1).
Fig. 2: Insert the bowl correctly (1) by turning it 90° clockwise.
Failure to comply with any of the above-stated machine
installation regulations can lead to machine malfunctioning and
render the warranty null and void.
6.6

DECLARED USE

The alghamix II mixer has been designed to mix alginates, plaster and
silicones for the dental sector.
6.7
NON-DECLARED/PROHIBITED USE
Using the machine for any purpose other than that described in
section 6.6 (Purpose of the Machine) shall be considered
improper and thus forbidden. The improper use of the machine
renders the warranty null and void and Zhermack declines all
liability for any damage to objects and injury to operators or
third parties.
The main reasons for which the warranty is rendered null and void are given
in paragraph 2.2 and in the "Warranty Certificate" attached to this Manual.
CHAPTER 7: USING THE MACHINE
7.1

GENERAL WARNINGS

For total certainty of safe operation, scrupulously follow the
work phases given below.
For greater clarity, the numbers stated in the figures positioned
near to the paragraph boxes correspond to the numbering of
the data in Chapter 3, regarding the "Description of the machine".
• In order to prevent any residual risks (see par. 7.5), always
wear protection goggles during the mixing phase.
• To avoid the occurrence of any risks, pay attention to avoid
pouring water during the preparation on the electrical
voltage parts.
7.2

USING THE MIXER WITH ALGINATE

After having carried out correct installation and commissioning, proceed
as follows:
Fig. 3: Use a measuring beaker to batch the alginate powder that is to be
mixed in the bowl (1).
Fig. 4: Use a measuring beaker to dose the water necessary for mixing the
powder and pour it into the bowl.
Fig. 5: Pre-mix gently using the spatula (3).
In order to prevent any residual risks (see par. 7.5), always wear
protection goggles during the mixing phase.
7.2.1 MIXING FOR RIGHT-HANDED USERS
Fig. 6: Start to mix in "slow" mode.
Fig. 6A: Push the spatula away from yourself and press it firmly against the
bowl. After a few seconds increase the speed ("fast" mode).
7.2.2 MIXING FOR LEFT-HANDED USERS
Fig. 7: Start to mix in "slow" mode.
Fig. 7A: Pull the spatula towards yourself and press it firmly against the
bowl. After a few seconds increase the speed ("fast" mode).
Fig. 8: Press the spatula firmly against the bowl in "slow" mode in order to
gather the mixed material.
Fig. 9: Pour the mixed product onto the impression tray.
On completion, remove the bowl and rinse.
7.3
USING THE MIXTURE WITH PLASTER** (OPTIONAL)
The 600 cc bowl must be used for plaster (supplied on request).
TO MIX THE PLASTERS, FIRST POUR IN THE WATER AND THEN
ADD THE POWDER.

The reference figures are present on pages 3, 5 and 5 of this manual and in the product Quick Guide.
Repeat the operations described previously in paragraph 7.2,
starting from figure 5.
7.4
USING THE MIXTURE WITH SILICONE ** (OPTIONAL)
Fig. 10: After having carried out correct installation and commissioning,
proceed as follows: connect the mixing support block (8) to the mixer. Make
sure that the mixing block is applied (7) and that it still contains sheets.
Fig. 11: Place the appropriate amount of the two components to be mixed
(7) onto the mixing block.
Fig. 12: From the central "off" position, turn the switch (2) to the left in
"slow" position for slow plate rotation.
DO NOT use the alghamix II mixer at "fast" plate speed as
high speed rotation causes the projection of the material.
Fig. 13: Using the spatula for silicones (6) mix the two components until
a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Place the switch (2) in the central off
position.
In order to prevent any residual risks (see par. 7.5), always wear
protection goggles during the mixing phase.
Fig. 14: Release the support (8) and use the mixed material. Remove the
used adhesive sheet from the mixing block (7).
Always make sure that there are adhesives sheets on the mixing
block (7).
(**) Or even other fluid elastomers.
7.5

RESIDUAL RISKS

Residual risks are:
• a danger that cannot be totally eliminated through design and the
application of safety devices;
• a potential danger that cannot be highlighted.
The alghamix II mixer is a machine that allows to mix products for dental
technology use; the residual risks are represented by:
• being hit by jets, drops and/or sprays of compound during the mixing
phase (which could cause serious injury to the eyes);
• interventions inside the machine by unauthorised staff.
In order to prevent accidents, always operate with respect to
that described in this Manual. If in doubt, always contact the
Manufacturer or Authorised After-Sales Centre.
CHAPTER 8: MAINTENANCE
8.1

CLEANING THE MACHINE

Use a dry cloth to clean the machine exterior. If necessary, dampen the cloth
with a small amount of water or a non-degreasing detergent (see paragraph
2.4).The operator must ensure that the machine is kept clean and free from
any foreign bodies such as debris, water, non-conducting liquids etc. For
this purpose cleaning must be performed at the end of every shift, with the
machine in stable conditions. To clean the mixing components (e.g. bowl
and spatula) use a sponge and plenty of running water. If necessary, use a
foodstuff-safe detergent. Rinse and dry all components well before re-use.
• Before cleaning the outside of the machine, always make sure
that the master switch is off. It is prohibited to clean the
machine when it is connected to the electric power supply
mains.
• Do not use inflammable, corrosive, alkaline or toxic liquids to
clean the machine and/or components.
8.2

ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

Once the machine has been cleaned (see paragraph 8.1), the operator must
check for worn, damaged or loose parts. If any such situations are detected,
contact the Authorised After-Sales Centre.
If any of the previously-described situations should occur, it is
prohibited to re-start the machine before the problems have
been solved.
In particular, before moving away from the machine, the operator detecting
problems of any nature must place a sign on the it indicating that
maintenance is in progress and that use is prohibited (EC-compliant signs
can be purchased from the relevant suppliers).
Routine maintenance, cleaning and correct machine use are essential
factors in guaranteeing long-lasting machine performance and safety.
