6.4.2 Installing the "on-board supply" retrofit
wiring harness, A3 Saloon
The "on-board supply" retrofit wiring harness is only installed on
vehicles without the preparation for towing bracket.
Preparatory work
◆ Battery has been disconnected
◆ Socket retrofit wiring harness has been fitted
◆ The lower left-hand section of the A-pillar trim has been re-

◆ The left-hand sill panel trim has been removed
◆ The left-hand wheel housing trim has been removed

◆ Front left-hand knee airbag has been removed
Installation
– Route the retrofit wiring harness -2- along the standard wir-
ing harness to the trailer detector control unit -J345- and
connect to the trailer detector control unit -J345- -3-.
– Establish the earth connection -1-.
– Secure the retrofit wiring harness -2- to the standard wiring
harness using cable ties.
The wires must be secured with cable ties to stop them from
"slipping" or "wearing".
– Route the retrofit wiring harness -2- along the standard wir-
ing harness to the relay and fuse carrier behind the storage
compartment on the driver side (left-hand drive vehicles) or
the glove box (right-hand drive vehicles).
– Secure the retrofit wiring harness -2- to the standard wiring
harness using cable ties.
Notes on further installation
WARNING
DO NOT connect the battery!
The battery is reconnected ONCE ALL WORK HAS BEEN
COMPLETED.
Earth point tightening torque: 9 Nm
