5.13 Service position of convertible roof and
convertible roof compartment lid, A3
Cabriolet
WARNING
Risk of injury when convertible roof is not fully open.
◆ When moving into the service position, the converti-
ble roof compartment lid must be moved fully to the
rear until it reaches the end position.
◆ Before carrying out any work on the convertible roof
system, hydraulic pressure in the system must also
be relieved.
◆ Reason: After approximately six minutes, the conver-
tible roof control unit builds up the hydraulic pres-
sure in the system abruptly and there is a risk that the
convertible roof compartment lid will close in an un-
controlled manner.
◆ Further operations are only permitted once the hy-
draulic pressure is relieved.
Sequence of operations
– Open the convertible roof until the convertible roof -1- and
convertible roof compartment lid -2- reach the position indi-
cated.
– Make sure that the convertible roof compartment lid in the
"open" position is secured against accidental closure by
pressing the hinge on the upper deflection point as far as it
will go -3- on the strut -4-.
– Thread the tensioning strap -T10038- in the hook -T40306-
and tighten the shaft with three turns of the quick-release
clamp.
– Hook the front and rear hooks -T40306- in the centre of the
edge of the convertible roof and adjust as necessary.
– When the ignition is switched off, press the convertible top
operation button -E137- -1- for approximately five seconds.
Doing so relieves the pressure in the hydraulic system.
