1.2.1
Preliminary safety checks
Before beginning any start-up procedures it is very important that you familiarize yourself with the fire-fighting pressure booster
and the system. Perform a visual safety check of the machine's workplace and installation. This check must include all the
operations listed below and those that are essential for the installation. All sources of real or potential danger must be eliminated
before proceeding.
-
Identify the position of the fire extinguishers and all other protection and emergency devices, and learn about their operation.
-
Identify sources of danger, such as leaks of fuel, lubricating oil and acid solutions, condensate in the drip pans, high
voltages, high pressures and other hazards.
-
Make sure the modular fire-fighting pressure booster is clean and that the surrounding area and escape routes are clean and
free from obstacles. Make sure that openings, inlets and breathers are not clogged.
-
Look out for other personnel that might be working on other equipment in the area, and make sure that their work does not
affect the proper operation of the system.
Never start the machine unless all the safety measures have been observed!
1.3
Safety requirements for maintenance
1.3.1
General precautions
- Prohibit all unauthorized access.
- Do not attempt to make repairs you are not familiar with. Always follow the instructions and, if these
are not available, contact the supplier or a qualified technician.
- Always keep the motor clean, removing any dust and residue that could affect its functionality and
efficiency.
- Post a "DO NOT USE" sign on all the electrical cutoff devices designed to isolate those parts of the
system on which work is to be carried out. Whenever possible, use key-operated lockout devices to
prevent any accidental, dangerous manoeuvres.
- Always wear protective gloves when cleaning and inspecting the machine.
- Always wear a hard hat and protective glasses in the work area.
- Always wear safety footwear. Always make sure your hands and feet are dry when handling parts that
could be live. Use insulated platforms whenever necessary. If you are not familiar with the use of
these, ask a specialist to perform the operations or adjustments concerned.
- Do not remove the safety devices.
- Do not manually clean, oil, lubricate, repair or adjust any of the moving components.
- Never wear loose-fitting clothes, rings and/or necklaces when working near motors or moving parts.
- Risk of fire. Never leave flammable liquids or rags soaked with flammable liquids near the set or near
electrical equipment (including lamps) or parts of an electrical system.
Do not leave rags on the motor.
ATTENTION
- Risk of electrical current. Never perform any operations that require the assistance of at least one
other person, especially when these operations involve control devices like: switches, cut-off devices,
fuses and/or other live equipment.
1.3.2
Electric panel
-
Do not remove the safety devices.
-
First of all, unplug the electric panel from the mains and secure the machine to make sure that it
cannot start up automatically.
-
The electric pump is an automatic device. Before making the electrical connection, you are
recommended to check that the three-way switch is in its "0" position and, in the case of maintenance,
to also turn the main door-lock switch to its "OFF" position.
-
Electric panels, like all electrical equipment, are susceptible to humidity and dust. Make sure that the
heating elements that prevent condensation (when applicable) work properly, and that the air vents
are clean. Periodically check that the hold-down bolts of the electrical connections are securely
tightened.
