10 USING THE MACHINE
10.1 SAFETY CHECKS
WARNING
Carry out the following safety checks before using the machine and whenever the machine is
subjected to knocks or falls.
• Ensure that the handles are clean, dry and properly and firmly attached to the machine.
• Make sure that the cutting device guard is correctly and firmly attached to the machine and that it
is free from damage and there are no signs of wear.
• Check the correct positioning of the harness attachment point (Fig. 1.18).
• Check that the screws on the machine are properly secured.
• Make sure that the cutting device is clean, undamaged or not worn.
• Make sure that the disc is sharp.
• Check that the cooling air passages are not obstructed.
• Make sure there are no signs of damage or wear and tear on the machine.
• Check the free movement of the accelerator lever and the accelerator stop lever.
• Carry out a test drive and check that there are no abnormal vibrations or sounds.
• Check that the accelerator lever and the accelerator stop lever return quickly to a neutral position
if released.
• Make sure that it remains locked only when the accelerator lever is pressed.
10.2 GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
• Always cut with both feet on stable ground to avoid losing balance.
• Make sure you can both move and remain on your feet safely.
• Check for obstacles in the area you are working (roots, stones, branches, ditches, etc.) in case you
need to move suddenly.
• Do not cut above chest level, as it is difficult to control kickback forces at that height.
• Do not cut close to electric power cables.
• Only cut when visibility and light conditions allow clear vision.
• Do not cut from a step; this position is extremely dangerous.
• Stop the machine if the disc hits a foreign body. Inspect the disc and the machine; do not resume
work if any parts are damaged.
• Keep the disc away from soil or sand. Even a small amount of soil contributes to rapid blunting of a
disc and increases the risk of kickback.
• Stop the engine before placing the machine on the ground.
• Special care should be taken when wearing hearing protectors, as these can limit the ability to
hear danger sounds (phone calls, sirens, alarms, etc.).
• Take extreme care when cutting on sloping or uneven terrain.
