DANGER
• Do not attempt to remove the cut material while the engine is running or the cutting device
is moving. Stop the engine and cutting device before removing material caught around the
blade.
• The bevel gear can heat up during use and remain hot for some time after use. Contact can
cause burns.
• Silencers fitted with catalytic converters become very hot during use and remain so for a
long time after the engine has stopped. This is the case even when the engine is running at
idle. Contact can cause skin burns and be a fire hazard.
• Do not use the machine if the silencer is damaged, missing or has been modified.
10.4 CUTTING GRASS WITH THE STRIMMER HEAD
ATTENTION
Never use a line linger than recommended (Fig. 15). When the guard is correctly fitted (Fig. 4),
the built-in cutting device automatically adjusts the appropriate length of line. The use of
excessively long lines can overload the engine and cause damage to the clutch mechanism
and adjacent parts.
Trimming
• Hold the head at an angle just above the ground. The cut is made from the end of the line. Let the
line work. Never push the line into the area to be cut.
• The line makes it easy to remove grass and weeds at the base of walls, fences, trees and curbs;
However, it can damage the bark of certain trees and shrubs and affect fence posts.
• To reduce the risk of damaging other plants, shorten the line to 10-12 cm and reduce the engine
speed.
Thinning out
The thinning technique makes it possible to remove all unwanted vegetation.
Proceed as indicated below:
• Hold the trimmer head just above the ground and tilt it.
• Let the end of the line hit the ground around trees, poles, statues and similar objects.
• The line wears faster and needs to be advanced more frequently when thinning near stones,
bricks, concrete, metal fences etc. rather than trees and wooden fences.
ATTENTION
During trimming and thinning, the engine should run at a lower speed than full speed to
allow longer line life and reduce head wear.
Cutting
The machine is ideal for cutting grass that is difficult to reach with a normal mower:
• When cutting, keep the line parallel to the ground without tilting the strimmer head and perform
the operation as shown in Fig. 23.
ATTENTION
Avoid any contact between the head and the ground. This can damage the machine and ruin the
lawn.
