1. If not done previously, reconnect two-
piece rail installations on staircase.
2. Place rail on stepnoses.
NOTE: Place heavy toolbox at bottom
of stairs to keep rail from sliding.
NOTE: Bottom of rail should be 1/8"
(3 mm) off floor.
3. Mount all rail brackets to rail.
• Tap bolt down in rail bracket slot
before tightening (Fig. 1).
• Torque rail/rail bracket mounting hardware
to 25 ft. lb. (34 Nm).
4. Slide rail out horizontally until bottom of
rail is off stair stepnose by:
no carpet: 2" (51 mm) minimum
carpet: 2.5" (64 mm) minimum
Measure every step (Fig. 2).
5. Measure from wall side of TOP of rail to
closest obstruction (i.e., wall, handrail,
etc.):
4.25" (108 mm) (See Fig. 3.)
Measure at top, middle and bottom
along the length of each rail section.
6. Begin to anchor rail brackets, starting
with rail bracket at top of stairs. Use
only two (2) sheet metal screws, one (1)
on the wall side first, then one (1) on
the stairway side of rail.
NOTE: Wait to anchor rest of rail
brackets until running clearances
are checked.
NOTE: If bottom of rail is closer than
2" (51 mm) to stair stepnose,
remove screws, slide rail
horizontally, and refasten
rail bracket.
