1. Before cutting rail to length, remove
charge strip carrier (Fig. 1). Set aside.
Then, cut rail to length required for
installation. (See page 6, Rail Measurements
to calculate.)
NOTE: Actual rail length for a 16'
two-piece rail is 15'-9".
2. Place flat side of rail on saw horses.
Draw a line at desired finished rail length.
Carefully align saw with marked cutting line.
3. Cut rail to length.
4. Once rail is cut, deburr cut end using a
metal file or other appropriate tool.
NOTE: Be sure to round edges that
might abrade wiring at rail end
routed to bumper.
For folding rail installations: Keep shipping
brace on folding rail, maintaining a closed
position (Fig. 2). Next, insert slow
down strip into charge contact and
fasten with two (2) self-drilling hex
head screws. Then, feed charge lead
through the hole in the rail out the cut
end of the rail.
Now, skip to Joint Preparation.
5. With rail still on saw horses, slide charge
strip carrier into back side of rail (Fig. 3).
Inset carrier as noted in Fig. 3.
6. Attach charge contact to slow down
(communications) strip (Fig. 4).
7. Bend slow down strip tab (at opposite end
from charge contact) down slightly (Fig. 5).
Do not let tab touch rail!
8. At bottom end of rail, slide charge contact
assembly from Fig. 4 into back side of rail
(Fig. 6). Assembly will fit snugly against
charge strip carrier.
NOTE: Carrier may be longer than rail
at this point.
