ATTENTION: location of plugs is marked as an example - their position may vary
slightly depending on the motor model. Filler caps can be recognised by the fact
that they have seals under the head.
For inspection or replacement of the transmission fluid, the motor must be out of
the water and away from it, and must be upright (as when in operation).
Alternatively, it can be mounted on a vessel provided it is level and the vessel itself
is also out of water.
Checking - filling up: unscrew the filler plug - the transmission fluid level should
reach the lower edge of the hole from the filler plug. If it is not, top up to this level,
i.e. add slowly until the excess starts to flow out. Then tighten the filler plug again
as far as it will go (do not tighten it too much, as you may damage the seal), and
carefully wipe off any excess fluid that has escaped, and wash the residue carefully
with e.g. extraction gasoline. This area should be clean and degreased before the
motor is immersed.
Replacement: unscrew the filler cap. Next, place a sump for used fluids under the
sink plug at the bottom of the screw gear housing. Slowly unscrew the sink plug.
Drain the fluid from the gearbox and then reinstall the sink plug (do not over
tighten as you may damage its seal). Slowly top up the transmission fluid via the
filler plug until it no longer flows out. Then screw on the filler cap (do not
