vii. Product description
these tracheostomy tubes are made of sterling silver.
the material used is latex-free.
We supply the Fahl
®
When used and looked after correctly, in particular observing the instructions for use, cleaning, disinfection and maintenance in these
instructions for use, these tracheostomy tubes have an expected service life of up to 3 years. this is only the case though provided that
the tracheostomy tubes are reprocessed professionally every 6 months. if the prescribed intervals for reprocessing are not observed, all
warranty claims become void.
Please see the size table in the appendix.
A particular feature of the Fahl
the tube tip is rounded to prevent irritation of the mucus membranes in the trachea.
there are two lateral fastening eyelets on the neck flange for attaching a tube holder.
it may be advisable to use tubes of different lengths alternately so the tip of the tube does not always touch the same spot in the trachea
and cause irritation. this prevents pressure points or the formation of granulation tissue. Always discuss the exact procedure with your
doctor/physician.
Mrt (Magnetic resonance tomography) information
tracheostomy tubes made of sterling silver must under no circumstances be used during exposure to radiation (radiotherapy, X-ray exam-
inations), as this can lead to serious skin damage!
1. neck flange
A particular feature of the Fahl
the size specifications are printed on the neck flange.
the neck flange of the tracheostomy tubes has two side eyelets for inserting a tube holder.
All Fahl
tracheostomy tubes with fastening eyelets include a disposable tube holder for single use. the tube holder secures the tra-
®
cheostomy tube to the neck.
Please follow the instructions provided with the tube holder carefully when attaching and removing it from your tracheostomy tube.
ensure that the Fahl
the tube holder.
2. Connectors and adapters
Connectors and adapters are used to connect compatible tube accessories.
the options available to a patient depend on the clinical condition, such as status post laryngectomy or tracheostomy.
Connectors/adapters are normally permanently attached to the inner cannula. the connector in this case is the universal (15 mm) con-
nector with the aid of which so-called artificial noses or heat and moisture exchangers (HMes, filters for exchanging heat and moisture)
can be attached.
the 22 mm combi-adapter can be used to fasten compatible filter and valve systems with 22 mm attachments – such as , but not limited
to the Humidophone
Combiphon
speaking valve (reF 27131), laryvox
®
3. Cannula tube
the cannula tube borders directly on the neck flange and directs the airflow into the trachea.
4. inner cannula
the inner cannulas are, depending on specification, either equipped with a standard attachment or permanently connected to particular
adapters/connectors, or they can be connected to detachable accessories such as for instance speaking valves.
the inner cannulas can easily be removed from the outer cannula, thus allowing the air supply to be increased quickly if necessary (for
instance in case of dyspnoea).
in the case of the silver tracheostomy tubes, the inner cannulas are held in place in the outer cannula by means of a lever. to remove the
inner cannula, this lever must be turned sideways.
inner cannulas must never be used without outer cannula but must always be affixed to the outer cannula.
