8.4
CLEANING THE PORTAFILTERS
• Pour 1 litre of hot water (50÷80°C) and 10 g of deter-
gent powder (about 4 coffee spoonfuls) into a suitable
container (not made of aluminium or iron).
• Remove the filters from the portafilters.
• Soak the filters and portafilters in the solution for at
least 15 minutes.
ATTENTION: Immerse only the metallic parts of
the portafilters.
• Use a non-abrasive sponge to remove any residue,
then rinse in plenty of running cold water.
• Make sure the filter fixing spring is in its seat.
• Refit the filters in the portafilters.

CLEANING THE STEAM WAND
WARNING: Risk of scalding; use the relative
insulating devices when handling the water
and steam wands.
8.5.1
AFTER EVERY USE
• Use a sponge and hot water to clean the outer part of
the wand, removing any organic residue. Rinse thor-
oughly.
• Point the wand towards the cup-holder tray and release
steam briefly.
8.5.2
AT THE END OF THE DAY
• Place a suitably sized container underneath the hot
water dispenser (6 - Fig. 4.1).
• Dispense enough water (at a temperature higher than
90°C) to cover the part of the wand that has been in
contact with milk.
• Place the wand in the container and leave it to soak for
at least 30 minutes.
• Remove the water from the container and rinse it thor-
oughly.
• Fill the container with enough water to cover the part
of the wand that was in contact with the hot water used
previously.
• Place the wand in the container.
