8.6 Setting up the cold wire: TP KD and TP AVC/OSC
CAuTION! Unintentional starting up of the welding tongs!
Crushing of hands and fingers.
X Switch off the Orbital welding power source.
CAuTION!
Danger of injury through pointed electrode or, if applicable, cold wire (for KD versions)!
X Do not take hold of the weld tongs at the position of the electrode or of the cold wire.
X Wear safety gloves 1/1/1/1 in accordance with EN 388 or 1/2/1/1 EN 407.
NOTE!
The cold wire feed of the welding tongs ORBIWELD TP is equipped by default with wire liners
suitable for wire diameters 0.8 mm (0.031"). To retrofit the cold wire feed to a wire diameter
of 1.0 mm (0.039") a corresponding KD retrofitting kit has to be ordered (see product
catalog).
X Ensure that the wire and wire liner diameters match each other.
1. Pull the wire liner (2) out of the quick-release coupler by pressing the locking mechanism (1).
2. Loosen the knurled screw (4) at the wire feed unit (3) and fold it upwards.

3. Fold open the cover (5) of the wire feed unit.
4. Loosen the wire coil cover (6) by turning the knurled screw (7) and take it off.
NOTE! X To avoid damage to the wire liner use a key file (contained in the tool set) to deburr
and round off the beginning of the cold wire. This makes it easier to guide the cold wire
through wire liner.

5. Straighten the first 20 cm (7.9") of wire from the cold wire coil (8).
6. Insert the cold wire into the wire liner (2). While doing so hold the wire coil so that the wire (9) cannot "jump off" it.
7. Push the wire through the wire liner that is held stretched and slide it through the wire feed unit until the wire projects out at
the other end of the wire liner (2) by approx. 10 cm (3.94").
NOTE!
While threading keep the wire coil tensioned thus protecting it against unwinding.

8. Close the cover (5) of the wire feed unit again.
9. Fold the knurled screw (4) down again and tighten it until the wire is secured against unintentional sliding out of the wire
liner.

10. Place the wire coil (8) on the holder. Continue to keep the wire coil tensioned, ensuring that it does not unwind.
11. Put the wire coil cover (6) back on and hand-tighten the knurled screw (7) again.
