Temperature monitoring for motor bearings
• The temperature of the motor bearings is moni-
tored by PT100 sensors. These must be connect-
ed via an evaluation relay. We recommend the
"DGW 2.01G" relay for this.
The threshold is 100 °C. When it is reached, the
unit must switch off.
Terminal chamber monitoring
• The terminal chamber monitor (moisture sensor)
must be connected via an evaluation relay.
We recommend the "NIV 101/A" relay for this.
The threshold is 30 kOhm. When the threshold is
reached, the unit must switch off.

5.6. Motor protection and activation types

5.6.1. Motor protection
The minimum requirement for motors with a free
cable end is a thermal relay/motor protection
switch with temperature compensation, differ-
ential triggering and an anti-reactivation device
in accordance with VDE 0660 or the appropriate
national regulations.
If the pump is connected to electrical systems
in which faults frequently occur, we recommend
installing additional protective devices at the
customer (overvoltage, undervoltage or phase
failure relays, lightning protection etc.). We also
recommend installing a residual current circuit
breaker (RCD).
Local and national regulations must be observed
when connecting the pump.
5.6.2. Activation types
Direct activation
At full load, the motor protection should be set to
the rated current shown on the rating plate.
At partial load, we recommend that the motor
protection be set 5 % above the current mea-
sured at the operating point.
The rated current may not be exceeded!
Star-delta activation
The setting of the motor protection depends on
the installation:
• If the motor protection is installed in the motor
line: Set the motor protection to 0.58 x the
rated current.
• If the motor protection is installed in the power
supply lead: Set the motor protection to the
rated current.
The maximum start-up time in star-connection is
3 seconds.

Soft start activation
• At full load, the motor protection should be set to
the rated current at the operating point. At partial
load, we recommend that the motor protection
be set 5 % above the current measured at the
operating point.
• The current consumption must be less than the
rated current during the entire operation period.
• Because of the upstream motor protection, the
motor should be started and stopped within
30 seconds.
• To avoid power losses during operation, bypass
the electronic starter (soft start) after normal
operation has been established.
Operation with plug/switching device
Insert the plug into the plug socket and press the
on/off switch or let the pump switch on/off auto-
matically by means of the attached level control
system.
Switching devices can be ordered as accesso-
ries for pumps with free cable ends. In this case,
also observe the instructions enclosed with the
switching device.
Plugs and switching devices are not over-
flow-proof. Note the IP protection class. Always
install switching devices in such a way that they
are protected from flooding.

5.6.3. Operation with frequency converters

Operation on the frequency converter is possible.
Note the information about this in the appendix.
6. Commissioning
The "Commissioning" section contains all the im-
portant instructions for the operating personnel
for starting up and operating the pump.
The following conditions must be adhered to and
monitored:
• Type of installation
• Operating mode
• Minimum water submersion / max. immersion
depth
If the pump has not been operated for an ex-
tended period, also check these conditions and
rectify any defects identified!
Always keep this manual either by the pump
or in a place specially reserved for it, where it is
accessible for the entire operating personnel at
all times.
In order to prevent damage or serious injury when
commissioning the pump, the following points
must be observed:
• The pump may only be commissioned by qualified
persons. The safety instructions must be ob-
served at all times.
• All persons working on or with the pump must
have received, read and understood this operating
and maintenance manual.
• All safety devices and emergency cut-outs must
be connected and checked to ensure that they
work properly.
