High-frequency surgical device GN300
Hardware monitoring
All internal voltages and other hardware functions generated by the
device are monitored continuously. If an error is detected, the error code
"Er 400" (hardware error) is displayed in the monopolar display. If this
error arises, it will not be possible to use the device.
Monitoring the program sequence
Time monitoring
In order to monitor the correct timing of the program sequence, a watch-
dog timer is provided which should be triggered at regular intervals during
the normal program sequence. If this trigger signal is not emitted during
an interval of more than 15 ms, the HF activation is securely blocked via
a path separate to the processor.
Logical monitoring
In addition to the correct timing of the program sequence, the logical pro-
gram sequence is also monitored for errors. A deviation is shown here with
the error code "Er 500".
Parameter monitoring
Operating status "HF deactivated"
During the "HF deactivated" operating status, the actual values for the
power supply voltage, the power supply current, the bipolar HF sensor
voltage, and the monopolar HF sensor voltage are continuously recorded
and compared with the corresponding limit values for the "HF deacti-
vated" operating status.
If an error is detected during this target/actual value comparison, the acti-
vation of the HF output is blocked. Depending on the detected error, the
corresponding error code is shown in the display.
If the error relates to the power supply voltage or the power supply cur-
rent, both HF generators are blocked. If an error occurs during the HF sen-
sor voltage monitoring process, only the affected HF output will be
blocked.

Operating status "HF activated"
If a HF output is activated, the actual values of the parameters decisive for
the applied power (voltage, current, and HF sensor voltage/duty cycle) are
recorded continuously and compared with the corresponding limit values.
If an error is recognized in this target/actual value comparison, the HF
output is immediately blocked via several channels.
Depending on the detected error, the corresponding error code is shown
in the display.
If the error relates to the power supply voltage or the power supply cur-
rent, both HF generators are blocked.
If an error occurs during the HF sensor voltage monitoring process, only
the affected HF generator will be blocked.
Monitoring the RAM values
The target values entered via the membrane keyboard for the dosage, the
modulation index, and the pedal assignment, are stored in duplicate in the
RAM memory and are checked on an ongoing basis. Within this, the cor-
responding values must be the same and be in the approved value range.
In the event of an error, the error code "Er 400" will be shown.
Monitoring the storage values
The target values belonging to the stored device settings for the dosage,
the modulation index, and the pedal assignment, are stored in duplicate
in a non-volatile memory (EEPROM) and are checked upon memory
retrieval. Within this, the corresponding values must be the same and be
in the approved value range.
Monitoring the software adjustment
Device-specific data such as serial numbers and reference values for the
fine calibration carried out during the device adjustment stage, are stored
in duplicate in a non-volatile memory (EEPROM) and can therefore be
checked for accuracy. An error will be shown via the error code "Er 600".
The device may be used under consideration of the limitations in terms of
the accuracy of output values.
