Intended use
The Aesculap HF surgical device GN300 contains both a high-performance
monopolar generator and a universal bipolar generator, meaning that
almost all electrosurgical operations and operating methods are covered
using this device.
The finely stepped, infinitely variable settings and power-based dosage
display, make the device suitable for all applications of microsurgical and
macrosurgical surgery such as:

The device fulfills bipolar and monopolar requirements for type "CF" as per
IEC/DIN EN 60601-1 and is therefore generally permitted for use in open-
heart surgery.

Monopolar operating modes
Cutting (monopolar CUT)
This operating mode is suitable for cuts in normal or low-resistance tissue.
The powerful current with Low Crest Factor guarantees quick and easy
cutting at all times.
For monopolar cutting, four modulation indices are available and these
can be preselected accordingly using keys 21 and 23. In this way, the
degree of surface sloughing (hemostatic effect) for the cut can be set.
For modulation index 1 (M1), preselected with key 23, the device supplies
an unmodulated, high-frequency current for a smooth cut with minimal
surface sloughing and optimal wound healing.
For modulation indices 2-4 (M2-M4), preselected with key 21, the patient
receives a more intense sloughing which can be adjusted to three depths.
If, for a lower modulation index, a higher dosage has been set than would
normally be permitted for a higher modulation index, this dosage will
decrease upon selecting the highest permissible value.
Coagulation (Monopolar COAG)
Two operating modes can be selected for coagulation. The operating mode
"Monopolar COAG normal", preselectable with key 32, is suitable both for
large-surface coagulation using forceps or clamps to stop the flow of
blood and for the coagulation of large tissue areas, e.g. in tumor surgery,
and for coagulation with small-surface, fine electrodes.
Through a special, dosage-dependent control of the electrical parameters
defined for the coagulation effect, the cutting effect is prevented and this
allows for a tissue-sparing coagulation at greater depths.
The use of the Vario double foot switch GN325 also allows for an individ-
ual control of the coagulation current meaning that a further optimization
of the coagulation result can be achieved, see Activation with Vario dou-
ble foot switch (GN325).
The operating mode "Monopolar COAG spray", preselectable with key 30,
is the preferred operating mode for surface coagulation by spark discharge
without the electrode coming into contact with the tissue.
For advanced SPRAY COAGULATION (fulguration), deep necrosis is
achieved and the scab therefore becomes black and hard.
Special applications: Hemostasis in difficult-to-access bone crevices and
in parenchymatous tissues.

Bipolar operating modes
Cutting (Bipolar CUT)
From a technical safety perspective, bipolar cutting represents the best
alternative to monopolar cutting. This can be used to achieve good cutting
results with comparatively low levels of power.
In addition, foregoing the use of a neutral electrode and therefore omit-
ting the associated risks, represents a further application-specific advan-
tage. Optimal cutting results, also and particularly for minimally-invasive
applications, can only be achieved with the instruments which have been
specially developed for these applications, see Accessories/Spare parts.
Coagulation (Bipolar COAG)
The broad adjustment range for bipolar coagulation optimally covers the
wide range of bipolar coagulation applications.
The adjustment range up to dosage 9.9 is specially designed for microsur-
gical operations with fine instrument tips and allows for a tissue-sparing
coagulation with a marked depth effect.
The adjustment range > dosage 10 allows for an effective coagulation
across the entire range of bipolar coagulation instruments and application
areas.

Activation
The monopolar part can either be activated via a handpiece with double
finger switches (see Accessories/Spare parts) or via a foot switch. The
bipolar part can solely be activated via a foot switch. Activating the
monopolar and bipolar parts at the same time is not possible.
