Before proceeding with any operation make sure that:
The engine cannot be accidentally started (disconnect the batteries)
All parts (mufflers, radiators, base, heads) have cooled down.
Warning! Opening the radiator cap while the engine is hot can cause serious burns.
1.2
Directions for safe installation and first commissioning
- Allow access to the work site, where the modular pressure boosters are to be installed, to authorized
personnel only. Post a sign to give warning of work in progress.
- Post a sign on all the electrical cutoff devices designed to isolate those parts of the system on which
work is to be carried out. Whenever possible, use key-operated lockout devices to prevent any
accidental, dangerous manoeuvres.
- The site and installation of the set (foundation, air inlet, gas exhaust) must comply with the safety
standards locally in force.
- Enforce the obligation to use the personal protective equipment (PPE) described in section 1.1 above.
- Do not remove the original protections on exposed rotating parts, hot surfaces, air intakes, belts and
live electrical components. Do not leave any disassembled components on the engine or its vicinity;
do not leave any tools or other parts not belonging to the system in the same room with the diesel
pump or near it.
- Never leave flammable liquids or rags soaked with flammable liquids near the pressure module or
near electrical equipment (including lamps) or parts of an electrical system.
- Install all the necessary safety protections on the parts that complete the system.
- Check the devices designed to stop the diesel engine and signal its operating conditions for perfect
functionality. (Check the following devices in particular: for low oil pressure; for high engine
temperature; emergency start buttons).
- Check that the gases are discharged outside into the atmosphere, safely and away from doors,
windows and air vents.
- Observe the following rules to prevent any accidental start-ups:
- Starting batteries must be disconnected from the diesel pump set;
- Key operated selector switch on the electric panel must be set to the "0" position.
- Check: correct ventilation in the room. Check that the outlet vent of the motor is free and that there are
no pipes in the way that could obstruct evacuation of the gas. Make sure that the pipes and mufflers

are suitably supported, equipped with expansion joints and protected against accidental contact.
- Inspect the oil and fuel pipes, checking them for cracks or leaks.
- Adopt all precautionary measures designed to prevent any risk of electric shock; make sure there is a
grounding system according to the standards in force.
- Isolate all the connectors and disconnected wires.
1.2.1
Preliminary safety checks
Before beginning any start-up procedures it is very important that you familiarize yourself with the fire-fighting pressure booster
and the system. Perform a visual safety check of the machine's workplace and installation. This check must include all the
operations listed below and those that are essential for the installation. All sources of real or potential danger must be eliminated
before proceeding.
- Identify the position of the fire extinguishers and all other protection and emergency devices, and learn about their operation.
- Identify sources of danger, such as leaks of fuel, lubricating oil and acid solutions, condensate in the drip pans, high voltages,
high pressures and other hazards.
- Make sure the modular fire-fighting pressure booster is clean and that the surrounding area and escape routes are clean and
free from obstacles. Make sure that openings, inlets and breathers are not clogged.
- Look out for other personnel that might be working on other equipment in the area, and make sure that their work does not
affect the proper operation of the system.
Never start the machine unless all the safety measures have been observed!
