Commissioning and checking operation of the main diesel pump
Carry out the preliminary operations below:
Connect the water supply
1)
Checkt the pre-charge value of the expansion vessels, if applicable.
2)
Shut the on-off valve located on the delivery line of the pump.
3)
Prime the pumps (refer to the pump booklet) and the inlet pipes.
4)
Clean the diesel pump (and any other modules) and its surrounding area thoroughly, removing all stains and dirt, oils, fuels,
5)
thinners, etc..
Make sure there are no rags or other lightweight materials near the air suction inlets.
6)
Make sure there are no foreign bodies near the rotating parts.
7)
Stow all the tools and rags in the appropriate storage containers.
8)
Check that the diesel pump is fastened to the ground or to a foundation secured to the ground.
9)
Check that there are no excessive vibrations that could damage the system.
10)
Make sure there are no loose nuts and bolts.
11)
Fill the tank with fuel.
12)
Check the correct level of the engine fluids (oil and water) and top these up if necessary.
13)
Check that the fuel pipes between the engine and tank are connected properly.
14)
Check that the water pipes are connected correctly.
15)
Connect the panel/diesel pump connector.
16)
Check that the starting batteries and the 1x230Vac single-phase power supply of the electric panel are connected properly,
17)
prioritizing the ground cable. Check that these are compliant with the values on the data plate on the control panel,
identifying the L-N terminals.
Check the electrical connection of the safety conductors.
18)
Turn the switch of the control panel to its "0" position.
19)
Turn the main door-lock switch Q1 to its "ON" position and check that:
20)
-
The control board starts up.
-
Correct indication on the display of the position of the three-way switch.
-
Correct indication of the battery voltage and charging of the batteries in the electric panel.
-
Supply of power to the engine heating devices, when installed (e.g. oil or water heaters).
The "No Vac current" alarm is not shown on the display.
-
Open the fuel on-off valve of the fuel tank.
21)
Turn the function switch of the control panel to its "MAN" (MANUAL) position.
22)
Press the "STOP" button to check correct operation of the electric engine stopping device.
23)
Start up the diesel pump manually by pressing and holding the "START" button until the motor starts running.
24)
After the motor has been running for a short while, press the "STOP" button to turn it off.
25)
Repeat points 30 and 31 to check alternate operation of the starting batteries. Number 1 or 2 appears on the display to
26)
indicate the starting battery.
Gradually open the pump delivery valve, letting out the air and increasing the pressure of the system up to the set value of
27)
the pressure switches. Use the pressure gauge situated near the pressure switches to read the pressure of the system.
Check that there is pressurized water in the system to ensure that the contacts of the pressure switches for starting the
28)
diesel pump are normally closed. With the system on pressure, the lights of pressure switches installed in the front of
cabinet must be both off. If the light stays on, check the functionality of the pressure because malfunctioning.
Turn the function switch of the panel is in its "AUT" position (the diesel pump must not start up while the system is
29)
pressurized).
Adjust the pump starting device (located just up the line from the pressure switches) in order to reduce the pressure for the
30)
pressure gauge. This automatically starts the diesel pump. If system pressure is below PStart, the lights switches installed
on the front of cabinet must both be on. If the light stays off, check the functionality of the pressure because malfunctioning.
Immediately restore the pressure to the device and press the "STOP" button (the diesel pump should turn off and go into
31)
standby).
Turn the function switch of the panel is in its "AUT" position (the diesel pump must not start up while the system is
32)
pressurized).
One by one, check the proper operation of the EMERGENCY START BUTTONS. Attention: after starting with the
33)
emergency button the diesel pump can be switched off only by manually operating the stop lever situated on the engine
(electric stop device). Then, the emergency push-buttons may be used, one at a time, only in case of an emergency (e.g.
fire, with failure of the automatic engine control device).
Close the fuel on-off valve of the fuel tank.
34)
Set the selector switch to "MAN" (MANUAL) mode and follow the instructions provided in the control unit manual. The diesel
35)
pump begins its automatic startup cycle with the fuel supply turned off. Six automatic startup attempts will be made, each
lasting no less than 15 seconds, with the starter in ON mode and with 10 and 15 second intervals. After the six attempts, a
failure to start alarm will be triggered.
Open the on-off valve to restore the supply of fuel and press the START button on the control unit. The engine should start
36)
up.
Finally, turn the switch to its "AUT" position. The diesel pump should not start up if the system is pressurized.
37)
Turn the switch of the jockey pump (when applicable) to its "AUT" position.
38)
Perform any other functional and/or safety tests if necessary (at the customer's request or to meet the requirements of specific
standards).
