There should be a fixed rain cap on the outdoor side of the outlet (figure 5) and there should also be one or more condensation
collectors with drain valve at the base of the pipes.
Lastly, a suitable collector with drain valve should be installed near the coupling of the exhaust manifold of the engine in order to
prevent condensation, oil fumes and carbon particles from entering the inside of the engine through the exhaust piping.
It is not permitted to join together the gas exhaust pipes of several diesel engines to form a single pipe.
ATTENTION
Each engine must have its own, separate gas exhaust pipe.
The installer must check that the installation is correct and that the exhaust counterpressure values are
within the tolerance ranges indicated by the manufacturer.
3.10 Exhaust silencer
The silencer reduces the amount of noise produced by the exhaust gases but increases internal counterpressure.
The silencer can be installed inside or outside the pump room. The silencer should preferably be installed inside the room to
reduce the level of noise perceived from outside. The gas exhaust piping downstream of the silencer must not, however, be too
long otherwise there can be resonance which greatly increases the level of noise. It is advisable to install the silencer as close
to the manifold of the engine as possible.
Most of the silencers provided are suitable for both vertical and horizontal installation.
A silencer installed inside the room limits the formation of condensation, and should be insulated like the exhaust piping to
prevent overheating of the room. A silencer outside the room costs less to install but is more exposed to the formation of
condensation and is more likely to corrode. In general, the silencer is fitted on the ceiling with supports that permit the thermal
dilation of the exhaust pipe.
In case of installation in hospitals, residential units and similar applications, where lower noise levels are required, special
silencers should be used to ensure greater noise dampening performances than those provided by the original silencers.
Moreover, suitable plenum chambers should be used whenever possible.
