CHECKING AND CLEANING
THE TERMINALS
Carefully read p. 60 (BATTERY).
Remove the battery/tool kit compartment
cover, see p. 20 (BATTERY / TOOL KIT
COMPARTMENT).
Remove the tool kit compartment (1).
Make sure that the cable terminals (2) and
the battery terminals (3) are:
- in good conditions (and not corroded or
covered with deposits);
- covered with special grease or Vaseline.

If necessary:
Make sure that the ignition switch is in po-
sition "
".
Disconnect first the negative (–) and then
the positive cable (red) (+).
Brush with a wire brush to eliminate any
sign of corrosion.
Reconnect first the positive (red) (+) and
then the negative cable (–).
Cover the terminals with special grease
or Vaseline.
After these operations:
Put back the tool kit compartment (1).
Put back the battery / tool kit compartment
cover, see p. 20 (BATTERY / TOOL KIT
COMPARTMENT).
CAUTION
Never disconnect the battery while the
engine is running.

REMOVING THE BATTERY

Carefully read p. 60 (BATTERY).
Remove the battery/tool kit compartment
cover, see p. 20 (BATTERY / TOOL KIT
COMPARTMENT).
Remove the tool kit compartment (1).
Make sure that the ignition switch is in po-
sition "
".
Disconnect first the negative (–) and then
the positive cable (red) (+).
Remove the battery breather pipe (4) (only
for batteries that need maintenance).
Remove the battery from its compartment
and put it on a flat surface, in a cool and
dry place.
WARNING
Once it has been removed, the battery
must be stored in a safe place and kept
away from children.
Put back the tool kit compartment (1).
Put back the battery/tool kit compartment
cover, see p. 20 (BATTERY / TOOL KIT
COMPARTMENT).
