  • Página 2: Sistema De Conexión/Desconexión Remoto (Rcd®)

Partly due to the difficulty of connecting to and disconnecting from overhead anchorages, workers often do not use a PFAS when performing tasks at heights. This is particularly true for work of short duration in places that are infrequently accessed and the heights are less than 20 ft (6.1 m). You will later learn that the RCD System can be used effectively on anchorages up to 20 ft overhead.
  • Página 3: Propósito Del Sistema Rcd

Standard and follow it carefully.
ANCHORAGE CONNECTOR A component with means specifically intended for coupling the PFAS to an anchorage. The “STRAP” component of the RCD System is an anchorage connector of the choker type. LANYARD A component consisting of a flexible line of rope, wire rope or strap which generally has a connector at each end for connecting the body support (full body harness) to a fall arrester, energy absorber, anchorage connector or anchorage.

  • Página 6 The RCD System is versatile, allowing use with a multitude of MSA fall protection products. While primarily designed for use with the Dyna-Lock® Backpacker Web Self-Retracting Lanyard, the RCD system can also be used with MSA Vertical Lifelines and other MSA Lanyard/Harness systems. Full user instructns for any of these MSA fall protection systems are supplied with the respective product.

The end of the inner extension member has a receptacle to accept the shanks of RCD System tools. In order for a tool to be securely held in place, its spring-loaded retainer pins must be aligned with and project through the tool retainer pin holes on the inner member of the Pole. Always be sure this condition exists when using tools.
  • Página 10 Never use the pole for any purpose other than those specified in this User Instruction. Never attempt to use the RCD system or its tools with a pole other than this pole, provided by Msa. The Pole may be oriented in any direction by the user in order to reach remote areas where appropriate anchorages are located.

Communiquer avec MSA pour obtenir de l’aide dans la sélection du connecteur d’ancrage approprié.
  • Página 14 User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 WARNING Install a protective “softener” between the Strap and the anchorage whenever the Strap can be cut or abraded. • Página 19: Evaluación Y Entrenamiento En El Sitio De Trabajo

User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 WARNING Before attempting to use the RCD system, the owner of the system (usually the employer of the at-risk worker) must analyze the workplace the provide training as is generally described in section 6.1. CAUTION Federal and state laws require that workplace hazards of falling, providing personnel access to and retrieval from hazardous spaces and performing rescue and evacuation operations be identified, evaluated and controlled.
  • Página 20: Evaluación Del Sitio De Trabajo

Placed in context with this overview, the RCD System falls into the latter category. When properly applied within its limits, it provides a useful set of tools and techniques for reducing exposures which cannot otherwise be reasonably eliminated or prevented. To use it successfully and properly, however, is not automatic. It takes technical observations, organization of the facts, analysis, good reasoning, training and cautious implementation to use the RCD System for its intended purposes and within its limitations.
  • Página 21 User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 Identify work which must be performed at heights and in other spaces which entails hazards associated with falling, access, retrieval, rescue and evacuation. If it is determined to be infeasible to provide permanent means of fall prevention for worker movement to, from, at and within such heights and spaces under normal and emergency conditions, then it is appropriate to consider use of Equipment.
  • Página 22 User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 □ all equipment forming the connecting segment from the worker’s harness to anchorage (“connecting subsystem” in the language of ANSI Z359.1) which will satisfactorily limit total fall distance and allow for dynamic elongation and activation distance of the connecting subsystem □...

Can the anchorage connector be installed using a preferred and perhaps safer and/or more efficient method such as a personnel lift? If anchorage connectors have been previously installed in fall hazard zones where the worker must go, Strap installation may be eliminated. The RCD System user can proceed to install the vertical lifeline or PFAS lanyard.

User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 CAUTION To prevent uncontrolled inward or outward movement of the pole inner extension member, always grip it before depressing the extension latch button. This is particularly important if one of the tools is attached to the tip of the extension member, giving it significantly added weight. Always ensure the internal latch that holds the inner member in place is locked before attempting to use the pole.

This eliminates the need for using the RCD System to effect the installations necessary for co-workers to work aloft at the same time. Bear in mind that OSHA regulations and ANSI standards require that each person have a separate lifeline.
