5.2.1 Description of the selectable motion patterns
The motion patterns can be selected in the "Expert" menu
under "Therapy"
.
PNF
The PNF motion pattern is based on the normal pattern of motion of the
shoulder joint according to PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation). This
means that movements toward the maximum abduction, external rotation and
retroversion positions are performed at the same time. When these positions
have been reached, the simultaneous movements to the maximum adduction,
internal rotation and anteversion positions are performed. After reaching this
position, the cycle restarts: simultaneous maximum abduction, maximum exter-
nal rotation and maximum retroversion.
The ranges of motion are programmed as described in section 5.1.
Wave
Up to three motors can be used for the Wave motion pattern. Motor A, per-
forming the anteversion / retroversion movement, is required in any case. All
motors are synchronized too in this mode, and the resulting motion pattern
resembles a sideways figure eight.
This means that not the maximum positions are entered at the same time but
that each motor, after reaching the set maximum position, individually changes
its direction.
The ranges of motion are programmed as described in section 5.1. Additionally,
the direction of the wave
can be selected: counter-clockwise
or clockwise
.
