BASIC OPERA TIONS
Information in the display _ []
Playback side of the tape
When D is displayed, the side facing you (the front side) is
played.
When <3 is displayed, the other side (the side away from you)
is played.
(_ Tape counter
The tape counter indicatesthe tape runninglength.
To change the playback side
During play or in pause mode, press the <11_ DIR/PRESET
button.
Each time the button is pressed, the playback side changes.
To set the tape counter to 0000
In stop mode, press the • I3LEAR button.
The counteris also set to 0000 when a cassette holderis opened.
Usable tapes
Use normal (type I), Cr02 (type 1]) or metal (type W) tapes.
DOLBY NR system
The Dolby Noise Reduction system reducestape hiss noise.
For optimum playback of a tape recorded with the Dolby NR
system,pressthe DOLBY NR b_ttontoturnthe DDNR indicatoron.
Noise may be heard if a television set is on nearby. Tum off the
televisionor separate the televisionfrom this unit.

SEARCHING FOR THE BEGINNING OF A
TRACK
(MUSIC SENSOR FUNCTION)
if there is a 4-second or longerblank between each track,youcan
search easilyfor the beginningof a track during playback.
The search can be made in the forward or reverse direction.
According tothe direction of the lighted indicators on the <11_ DIR/
PRESET button, press the 4_1 DOWN or I=,,1_ UP button during
playback to move to the next track or play the current track. _
Refer to the table below for search directions.

The search function usesa music sensor, which may not be able
to detect tracks for tapes with
• blanks of less than four seconds between tracks.
• noisy blanks.
• long passages of low-level sound.
• low overall recordinglevels.
