9.4.1.

Opening / closing the transmitter case

!
Switch the transmitter OFF before opening the
case (short-circuit hazard)!
Opening the transmitter case:
OPEN
Fig. 9.4.1.1.
a. Hold the transmitter in both hands, and push the
rear-mounted sliding latches down with both
thumbs (towards "OPEN") (
b. Carefully remove the rear case panel
(
Fig. 9.4.1.2.).
Closing the transmitter case:
Fig. 9.4.1.3.
c. Carefully stand the case at an angle on its rear edge,
and engage the two retaining lugs on the back panel
in their recesses
(arrows in
Fig. 9.4.1.3.).
d. Carefully close the back panel (
! Ensure that no wires are trapped, and that the
transmitter aerial has not slipped out of its guide
tube. It should be possible to fit the case back
easily, without using force.
e. Push the sliding latches up as far as they will go
(opposite direction to "OPEN").
9.4.2.

Adjusting / replacing the transmitter aerial

The transmitter aerial is permanently installed in the
case. For transport it can be completely collapsed and
recessed into the transmitter. For adjustment and pro-
gramming work the aerial can be left in this position.
The RF section will not be damaged if you do this.
!
Always extend the aerial to full length when you
are controlling a model. This will ensure that the
system works reliably, with maximum radiated
power and effective range.

CLOSE

Fig. 9.4.2.1.
The aerial can also be moved and locked in a second
position (angled up and left) for controlling a model:
a. Pull the aerial outward until you feel a noticeable
resistance (
Fig. 9.4.2.1.).
b. Pull the aerial past the resistance (approx. 3 - 5
mm further), then swivel the aerial upward and to
the left (
Fig. 9.4.2.2.). At this point there is no
resistance to overcome.
c. Tilt the aerial as far as it will go
the aerial locks itself in the new position.
To swivel the aerial back to the original location you
must first unlock it as described under a.
!
At regular intervals check the aerial for good con-
tact. Contact problems relating to telescopic aerials
are a frequent cause of poor transmitted power
and therefore reduced range, and have an adverse
effect on reliable operation. Aerials with intermit-
tent contact, bent aerials or aerials which extend
and retract too easily (wear) should be replaced.
Fig. 9.4.2.3.
If the aerial is damaged, it can easily be replaced:
simply remove the transmitter back panel and slide it
down and out of the aerial guide tube (

Removing / installing the RF module

The HFM-S M-PCM/PPM RF module is not protected
by a case. For this reason:
Do not touch the main circuit board or components.
Do subject the main circuit board to mechanical stress.
Do not place the RF module itself under mechanical
stress.
!
Do not touch components on the RF module
(
3.1. ESD notes).
Do not change any settings.
If the setting of any component on the RF module
is changed accidentally, or if any parts are da-
maged, have the module checked / repaired and
re-adjusted by a Service Centre or the main
MULTIPLEX Customer Service.
