The travflex™ 2 lifeline cannot ensure it's fall arrest
function without the associated personal protection
equipment (PPE) being connected to it. It can receive
up to three PPE at the same time. PPE associated
with the lifeline must be CE certified, manufactured in
accordance with the procedure referred to in Annex VIII
of EU Regulation 2016/425. Tractel
range of PPE, compliant with the implementation of this
regulation and compatible with the travflex™ 2 lifeline.
A preliminary study by a competent technician,
including material strength, is necessary before the
installation of the lifeline. This study should be based
on a calculation and take into account the applicable
regulations, standards and standard good practices
applicable as well as this manual, both for the lifelines
and the PPE that must be connected to them. This
manual must be delivered to the technician or the
design office responsible for the preliminary study.
The technician or consultant should consider the
risks to be covered by the system depending on the
configuration of the site and activity to be protected
by the travflex™ 2 lifeline against the risk of falls from
height. In light of these risks, they should:
– define the securing method (type, size, material) of
the travflex™ 2 lifeline on the host surface directly or
via interface plates. The travflex™ 2 lifeline can be
fixed directly to a bearing plane of concrete, steel or
interface plates, supplied exclusively by Tractel
to suit the type of host surface,
– for all the anchor points, check the mechanical
strength of the host structure on the plane where the
lifeline is to be secured, and the compatibility of the
structure with the travflex™ 2 lifeline and its purpose.
– in accordance with this, define the location of the
anchor points on the layout plane, to the number
required by the calculated reaction (intensity and
direction),
– define the PPE to be used, to ensure regulatory
compliance and compatibility with the travflex™
2 lifeline, given the configuration of the site and air

space necessary at all points in the area of use. For
the calculation of the air space, this must take into
account the vertical deflection of the safety support
(cable) at points that might be affected by the fall of
the operator(s), in all possible circumstances,
– establish a description of the site area to be covered
by the installation and a description of the travflex™
2 lifeline installation to be created with all its
components, as well as a layout drawing, depending
on the configuration site and route.
The implementation plan will provide areas to access
and connect to the lifeline that are free from any risk
of falling.
The preliminary study will take into account any
presence of electrical equipment in the vicinity of the
installation of the lifeline to ensure the protection of the
operator in terms of this equipment.
This preliminary study should be transcribed into
a technical file containing a copy of this manual,
which will be handed back to the installer with all the
information required for its implementation. This file
must be constituted, even if the preliminary study is
carried out by the installer.
Any change in the configuration of the area covered by
the travflex™ 2 lifeline, that might affect safety or use of
the facility will be subject to a review of the preliminary
study before further use of the lifeline. Any changes to
the system should be carried out by a technician who
has the technical expertise to install a new lifeline.
Tractel SAS is available to establish the preliminary
®
study needed to install your travflex™ 2 lifeline, and
to consider any special travflex™ 2 lifeline installation.
Tractel SAS can also provide the necessary PPE
®
against falls from a height, and assist you in relation to
existing facilities or installation projects.
6.1. Provisions prior to installation
The installer and contractor, if it is not the installer,
must obtain this manual and the preliminary study and
SAS ensure that it addresses all the previous points.
®
In particular, they should ensure the inclusion, in this
study, of the regulations and standards applicable to
PPE and lifelines.
The travflex™ 2 lifeline must be installed in compliance
with the preliminary study given to the installer.
The installation must also be preceded by a visual
inspection of the site by the installer, who will verify that
the site configuration is consistent with that taken into
account in the preliminary study, if the installer is not the
author. The installer should have the skills required to
