There is no difference in mechanics, electronics or software of the
robots on both sides. The specification R/H or L/H is simply done
by small jumpers on the PCBs. The robots do not have anything
like a power switch. Whenever you feel the need to urgently stop
the movement of a robot to prevent damage, please press the
emergency stop button on the right side of the cabinet.
Please do only press the E-stop in a real emergency, as
the process is interrupted and needs to be compeletly
restarted!
After pulling the emergency back out, the robots drive back to the
initial position with redurced speed.

Main Body

The main body of the robot is housing all those components that
are required, to bring the ‚Probe' safely and precisely to the right
places. A gear motor is driving the robot, an encoder is reporting
the actual position, with an accuracy of 1/10mm. An infrared
wheel detection sensor is being used to detect the position of the
wheels of the car that is to be measured. Additionally, there are
all the safety functions included in the main body, that prevent the
system from getting damaged e.g. in case of an obstacle in the
robot's way. An amperage limiter will allow the robot to cause a
certain pressure to that obstacle. In case of a person being that
obstacle, the pressure will be sensible, but in no way dangerous.
If the obstacle is cleared within the next seconds, the robot will
simply resume its travel. Otherwise, e.g. in case of collision with
a tool box, the user gets a message informing about it.
The main body, that communicates with the central PC via CAN
Bus, also takes care of the directional control of the moveable
plates, as well as the automatic unlocking and locking of the
plates.

Measurement System ‚The Probe'
Probably the most advanced measurement system in the world.
Working without touching the object to be measured, and without
the necessity for any preparative action on the wheel or the car.
Highly modular and protected in a steel box, the so called ‚Probe'.

NOT-AUS
Based on the ‚Colour Coded Triangulation' by Siemens, a metro-
logy that was originally used for automatic access control and
face recognition, and that is also used since some years in state-
of-the-art industrial wheel alingners in many car production lines
worlwide.
It creates an image full of coloured stripes on the target, in this
case on the wheel. This happens under a defined angle towards
the optical axis of the camera. This digital video camera conti-
nuously takes pictures of the whole wheel.
