not too problematic if the car is not perfectly straight on the lift.
In any case, you have to place the vehicle moreorless centered
right-left on the lift.
It can make sense to have some markings of a straight line on the
lift or on the floor in front of the lift, to make it easier to drive on
straight. Also, the use of mirrirs can help. The photographs show
some examples.
Park the vehicle in 1st gear (Automatic drive in ‚P'). This way, the
car can not roll away. The differential gear in the axles is only
permitting the special movement that is used during automatic
runout compensation. Please double check that no brake is
applied, regardless whether it is a handbrake or an automatic
braking system. Especially, a brake pedal depressor is not allo-
wed to be inserted at this time! For precisest possible measure-
ment, you have the car perfectly straight on the lift and fix the
steering wheel with the steering wheel holder. Just to remind - you
fix the steering wheel in a drive-straight position, not necessary
with the steering wheel straight.
If the car is in Neutral / No Gear, it can roll from the lift
and cause extensive damage on the car and on the
robots!
If a brake is applied during runout compensation, the
vehicle and the plate hydraulics can take damage!
Please remind that there are vehicles with auto-
matic parking brake. On these, you have to release
the brake manually after turning the engine off.
If you do not use the steering wheel holder, and the
wheels are not in the drive straight position, the position
of the wheels can change during runout compensation,
causing wrong readings!
As soon as the car is correctly positioned, press ‚continue'.

Measurement and Runout Compensation Process

On the screen show here, you get the usual preparatory informa-
tion for the car, if applicable. E.g. it can be specified to put defined
dummy weights in various places of the car, or the default load of
the fuel tank can be prescribed. If no special indications are given
in the car- and tank symbol, there is no such specification. For the
majority of the cars, that will be the situation.
With the button ‚Data Summary', you can look up the specs of the
car, like looking into a data book, including the information of what
is adjustable. The image to the left shows an example.
Pressing the button with the camera, you will get information how
a certain value is adjustable. The image to the right shows an
example for front toe adjustment. Also, you will be informed if
special tools or additional material is required. With the unlocking
smartcard 1 987 009 AS1N, you will get the adjustment informa-
tion as animated video sequences.
If you do not need additional adjustment information, but simply
want to start the process with runout compensation, you can now
press ‚Enter', with the cursor being placed on the compensation
button. There is also a button for a process with skipped runout.
Although this will give you one of the fastest alignment procedu-
res in the world (less than three minutes for toe and camber).
Nevertheless, you should be aware about the possible errors. The
whole wheel including rim and tyre is being measured, and if there
is any deviation e.g. because of a mounting error of the wheel, this
error will be exacly falsifying your results.
