original Mercedes process (1 987 009 AS3N) is installed,
and the brand ‚Mercedes' is selected.
Normally, you will select first the manufacturer of the car, i.e. the
brand.
Brand selection can be done either by using the up/down cursor
keys on the keyboard or the remote control. Or, you can type in the
first two letters of the manufacturer, e.g. „VO" for a Volkswagen.
After confirmation with the ‚Enter' key, you will normally be
prompted for the year of manufacturing, to shorten down the list
for the selection. If you are not sure and would like to see all cars
for that brand, you enter year ‚0'.
i Hint: If the selection by year does not already come up, we
recommend to activate it in the setup. In the category
‚Databank'‚ you can find a switch ‚selection by year of
manufacturing', which you can set to ‚yes'. As a conse-
quence, you only get shown the types and models , which
were produced in that year. Depending on the manufacturer,
this still leaves a very wide selection, but without that prese-
lection, it would even be worse.
i Hint: In the Setup, category ‚Databank', there is a switch
‚Brand', in which you can select which brand the cursor will
be on when you enter the vehicle selection. Please note that
there are two different standard settings, depending whether
you are in official or commercial description.
After selection of the manufacturer, you can now navigate through
the various series and models, either by using the cursor up/down
keys, or you enter the first letter(s) of the series. In the shown
example, after having selected ‚Renault' and you hit the ‚E' key,
you are in the ‚Espace' series.
Depending on the brand, there are more or less selection criteria,
even for the same model. Each manufacturer does this in his own
way. The software can only give hints for correct identification.
Widely used classifications are:
- Chassis type (Standard, Sport, Heavy Duty/Bad Roads)
- VIN
- Equipment codes
To find the relevant information for a car is not easy: It can be found
in the car's licence papers, in the service booklet, on various
stickers or manufacturer's ID plates. Furthermore, even for the
same model, same variant and same year, two different manufac-
turing sites may handle this in a different way. If you need
assistance in that jungle of original manufacturer's abbreviations
etc., you can press the ‚Help' button on the left top of the screen,
the help screen as shown in the right image will be shown.

If it is a car which already did an alignemnt on that system, and the
job record was properly filled in and saved (see 4.5), you can do
a selection by job record instead of a selection by databank. To
do so, you press the button with the notepad and pen. This one
can be found either on the vehicle selection screen, or you use
that selection mode from the beginning, as shown on the images
below. In both cases, you select a job record, either by a pull down
menu for the licence plate in the job record form, or in the selection
as shown below, where you can select by customer name, by
licence plate or by date.
From the overview page of the job record (below to the right), just
press the green start button. A measurement process with the
specs already selected will begin automatically.
f the ASANetwork function is unlocked (smartcard 1 987 009
AS7N) and activated in the setup, you would see the job selection
screen first, which would put all the customer information auto-
matically onto the job record.
With the vehicle selection done, the system checks whether the
wheelbase for that car is in the databank or not. If not, you will be
prompted to enter the wheelbase manually. The wheelbase
information is used for a self test of the system to avoid wrong
measurement results.
After having the correct set of specs and all relevant information
loaded, the system shows the runout selection and preparation
screen. The four turn/slip plates are locked in the meantime, and
you get prompted to drive the car onto the lift. Please do only drive
forward until the front weels are in the middle of the front plates,
as shown on the right photograph.
! It is recommended to have a second person giving signs
while you drive in position
! Please avoid strong acceleration or braking on the lift.
Drive the veicle on as straight as possible, i.e. without too much
steering. First priority is to have the car in a situation as it would
drive straight, regardless whether it is horizontal or not. Also, it is
