All this happens fully automatic. After the plates are back in their
initial position, the projector turns the coloured stripe image off,
and the robots go to the front axle.
There, the same squence happens, except the wheel identificati-
on. The robot simply returns to the place of the reference
measurement. The graycode is displayed to prepare measure-
ment, coloured stripes to measure, plates are moved for runout
compensation.
The wheel rotation angle on the front axle is somewhat smaller
than on the rear axle, and there is no unlocking.
At the end of thhis sequence, the projection of coloured stripes
stays active, and the software displays the next step. Toe and
camber are already completely measured.
Manual unlocking of slip plates and turn tables, as required on
other aligners at that place, was done automatically at the
appropriate times.
Do never change anything on an axle, where you do not
have display of live values. This can also mean not to
mount e.g. a steering wheel lock while the measure-
ment process is already running, and there is no front
axle live values indication.

Steering to measure Caster etc.
Remark: The fastest possible steering is a pure caster sweep of
a very special form, the so-called ‚Microsweep'. With this very
short movement of the steering wheel, you can also measure King
Pin Inclination / Steering Axis Inclination (KPI/SAI), if selected in
the setup.
Furthermore, you can select in setup or during the process
whether to do additional steering in order to measure the Turn Out
on Toe (TOOT), and the maximum steering angle lock to lock.
Both of these angles are being measured with the encoders in the
turntable.
Alternatively, you can skip steering, if you are only interested in toe
and camber. Depending on your selection, only ONE of the
following sections is relevant for you.
4.3.1
Microsweep - the world's fastest caster sweep
A screen is displayed that will guide you through the caster
sweep. It starts by directing you to put the steering wheel in the
drive-straight position (equal front toes).
If you want to measure also TOOT and maximum
steering angle, you have to select this by pressing the
relevant button (left side of the image), if it is not
preselected in the setup. In both cases, the selection is
visibl by an indicator ‚60°' on the right bottom of the
screen. In that case, follow also the next section.
Please keep in mind that the required steering movements on the
way to the drive-straight position may very small, and that the
system including the steering system of the car has a certain lag.
So, do always start with small movements, and wait a few seconds
to et an idea about the system's dynamic behaviour. As soon as
you reached the drive-straight position with sufficient accuracy, a
red traffic light will pop up.
