Special wheels
Alloy rim wheels: some alloy rim wheels have minimal
rim wells A or no rim wells at all - Fig. 19a. These rims are
not approved by DOT standards (Department of Trans-
portation). The DOT initials certify that tyres comply with
the safety standards adopted by the United States and
Canada (these wheels cannot be sold in these markets).
High-performance wheels (asymmetric curvature) -
Fig. 19-b: some European wheels have rims with a very
pronounced curvature C, except in the area of the valve
hole A where the curvature is less pronounced B. On
these wheels the bead must fi rst be broken in the area
of the valve hole, on both the top and bottom sides.
Wheels with pressure sensor - Fig.19c. To work correctly
on these wheels without damaging the sensor
(which may be incorporated in the valve, fi xed to the
belt, adhered to the interior of the tyre etc.), appropri-
ate mounting and demounting procedures must be
observed (see the "Approved procedure for mounting/
demounting runfl at and UHP tyres").
The TPMS device (optional) may only be used to test the function of pressure sensors.
5.3.b Defl ating the tire
Defl ate the tyre completely using the valve (Fig. 19d).
