THERMOSTAT
REMOVAL
Remove the driver's seat and the fuel tank.
Drain the coolant.
Remove the water hose and thermostat cover

INSPECTION
Inspect the thermostat pellet for signs of
cracking.
Test the thermostat at the bench for control action,
in the following manner:

Immerse the thermostat in the water contained
in the jar. The immersed thermostat must re-
main in suspension. Heat the water by placing
the jar on a stove and observe the rising tem-
perature on the thermometer.
Read the thermometer just when the thermo-
stat drops towards the bottom of the jar. This
reading, which is the temperature level at whi-
ch the thermostat valve begins to open, should
be anywhere between 48° and 52°C.
Thermostat valve opening temperature: 50 ± 2°C
Keep on heating the water to raise its tempera-
ture to and beyond 65°C.
Just when the water reaches 65°C, the thermo-
stat valve should have lifted by at least 7,0 mm.

A thermostat failing to satisfy either of the two
requirements (start-to-open temperature and
valve lift) must be replaced.
Tighten the thermostat cover bolts to the speci-
fication.

EXTRACCION
Desmontar el sillín del piloto y el depósito del
combustible.
Vaciar el circuito de refrigeración.
Desempalmar los tubos del agua y la tapa
del termóstato.
CONTROL
Verificar que la pastilla del termóstato no pre-
sente fisuras.
Verificar el funcionamiento correcto del termósta-
to

Sumergir el termóstato en un recipiente con
agua, el termóstato tiene que quedar suspen-
dido en el agua. Calentar el agua con un hornil-
lo, controlando el aumento de la temperatura
con un termómetro.
Leer la temperatura cuando el termóstato baja
hacia el fondo del recipiente. Esta temperatura,
que corresponde a la temperatura en la cual la
válvula del termóstato empieza a abrirse, tiene
que estar entre 48° C y 52°C.
Temperatura de apertura de la válvula del termó-
stato: 50 ± 2°C
Calentar hasta llegar a 65°C.
Cuando la temperatura del agua alcanza los 65
°C, la apertura de la válvula del termóstato ten-
dría que ser 7,0 mm, como mínimo.

Si el termóstato no satisface una de las dos
condiciones (temperatura inicial de apertura y
apertura máxima de la válvula) debe ser sub-
stituído.
