ENGINE COMPONENTS INSPECTION
AND SERVICING
CYLINDER HEAD
Remove the carbon and clean the cylinder head.
Check for scratches on the mating surface.
Check the gasketed surface of the cylinder head for
distortion with a straightedge gauge or faceplate
and thickness gauge, taking a clearance reading at
several places indicated.
If the higher of the values recorded exceeds the li-
mit indicated, replace the head.
Service limit: 0,1 mm
If the highest reading at any portion of the straigh-
tedge does not exceed the limit, rework the surface
by rubbing it against emery paper (of about # 400)
laid flat on the surface plate in a lapping manner.
The gasketed surface must be smooth and perfec-
tly flat in order to secure a tight joint. A leaky joint
can be the cause of reduced power output and
increased fuel consumption.
CYLINDER AND EXHAUST VALVE
Move the exhaust valve by hand and check that it
rotates smoothly.
Remove the exhaust valves from the respective
cylinders.
Decarbon the exhaust port, exhaust valves and the
upper part of the cylinder, taking care not to dama-
ge the cylinder liner surface.
Inspect the exhaust valve and cylinder sliding sur-
face for nicks, scratches, wear or other damage.

CULATA
Sacar los depósitos carbonosos y limpiar la culata.
Verificar que la superficie en contacto no esté ralla-
da. Con una varilla rectilínea o de un plano de con-
tacto y de una plantilla de espesor, controlar la co-
planaridad de la superficie en contacto de la cula-
ta, midiéndola en los varios puntos indicados.
Si el mayor de los valores encontrados supera el lí-
mite indicado, substituir la culata.
Valor máximo admisible: 0,1 mm
Si el mayor de los valores indicados no supera el lí-
mite indicado, aplanar la superficie frotar con un
papel abrasivo (con granos de unos # 400) apoya-
do sobre una superficie plana, con movimientos
circulares.
La superficie en contacto tendrá que ser lisa y per-
fectamente plana, para garantizar una buena es-
tanqueidad. Una escasa estanqueidad puede cau-
sar pérdidas de potencia y un mayor consumo de
combustible.
CILINDRO Y VALVULA DE ESCAPE
Accionar a mano la válvula de escape y verificar
que gire despacio.
Sacar las válvulas de escape de sus respectivos ci-
lindros.
Eliminar las incrustaciones de carbonilla de la lum-
brera de escape, de las válvulas de escape y de las
partes superiores del cilindro, teniendo cuidado en
no dañar la superficie de la superficie del cuerpo
del cilindro.
Controlar que la válvula de escape y la superficie
de deslizamiento del cilindro no presenten mues-
cas, arañazos, señales de desgaste u otros daños.
