Note
• Before first use, fully charge the rechargeable batteries. (Follow the instructions for use of the rechargeable batteries and
charger!)
• Always have 4 charged spare rechargeable batteries/4 full AAA batteries ready to use the speech aid without interruption.
• Pay attention to the polarity of batteries when inserting them.
The battery holder of the SERVOX
Removing the battery holder:
Screw off the bottom cover (E) anticlockwise, holding the titanium cover to pre-
vent it from slipping off the speech aid
Pull out the battery holder (H) straight

Inserting batteries:
The battery poles are marked on the bottom of the battery holder (H)
Insert 4 fully charged AAA rechargeable batteries/4 full AAA batteries into the
battery holder with the terminals aligned with the marking on the battery holder
base
Inserting the battery holder:
The battery holder has a fixing pin (I) on the top side which is inserted into the pin
hole provided inside the speech aid and thus fixes the battery holder in the correct

Align the battery holder (H) with the fixing pin (I) on the left edge of the buttons
as in figure 4 and align the guide mark on the battery holder centrally with the
buttons
Slide the battery holder (H) straight into the speech aid, slowly and without
pressure, until the fixing pin (I) slides into the pin hole
 Then, put the bottom cover back on straight and screw it on hand-tight

5.3 Battery status indicator
If the battery power decreases, the yellow LED light in the volume control/battery sta-
tus indicator (C) flashes. If the battery power is no longer sufficient to maintain the
normal functions, the LED light is permanently lit and no sound is produced.

5.4 Removing or sliding on the titanium sleeve
Caution
Risk of injury: The skin can be pinched when the titanium sleeve is slid off or on.
Move the titanium sleeve slowly and carefully!
The titanium sleeve protects the electrical components of the SERVOX
plate with the identification features of the speech aid and the removable strap protector for attaching the carrying strap.

5.5 Reading the serial number
The serial number is located on the type plate of the SERVOX
number, unscrew the bottom cover and slide the titanium sleeve off the housing.
On the plastic housing underneath, the serial number is indicated on the type plate behind the marking
"SN".
5.6 Using the buttons
In natural speech, individual syllables, words or parts of sentences are emphasised by a change in pitch.

digital XL speech aid therefore has 2 buttons that are assigned different pitches.

Botton A
Button B
In the factory setting, the upper button (A) is preset in a lower audio frequency as the basic tone for speaking and the lower button (B) in a
higher audio frequency for emphasising individual syllables, words or parts of sentences. The pitch of each button can be adjusted individually.

The buttons can be operated with the index and middle fingers or by tilting the thumb (see Figure 13 and 14).
5.7 Setting the audio frequency

To make the speech sound as natural as possible, the pitch should be adjusted as close as possible to the
former voice position.
Setting the audio frequency of the buttons
First remove the titanium sleeve. Replace the battery holder and screw the base cover back on
There are 2 DIP switches on the back of the housing. Each of the DIP switches is assigned to one of the
buttons.

The DIP switches can be operated with a pin.
Setting options with DIP switch and button
If both DIP switches are in the OFF position (top), the audio frequency is secured against change.
If the DIP switch of a button is set to ON, the sound frequency of this button can be increased or decrea-
sed by pressing the other buttons.
Increase frequency by1 Hz -> press button A 1 x
Decrease frequency by1 Hz -> press button B 1 x
Press repeatedly to increase or decrease each in 1 HZ steps
When a button is held longer, the value increases or decreases continuously.

After finishing the settings, both DIP switches must be in the OFF position (top) again. Saving the settings
in the speech aid processor can take up to 30 seconds. After finishing the settings, wait 30 seconds and
only then unscrew the bottom cover and remove the battery holder, slide on the titanium cover from
below, reinsert the battery holder and screw on the bottom cover again.
