5.11 Notes on speech formation
Practise finding your optimal application point again.
Maintain skin contact even when moving the head or jaw and do not detach the SERVOX
point. Loss of contact negatively affects sound quality and intelligibility.
 Imagine whispering very softly. In this way, the breathing noise can be reduced. Practise "pseudo-whispering" – whispering only with
the air in your mouth.
 Practise vowels first. Only switch to words when vowels are easy to understand.
 Do not over-articulate. This can result in pharyngeal voice and make you sound unintelligible to your listeners.
 Speak slowly at the beginning and pause appropriately so that your speech sounds as natural as possible.
 Practice speaking only with button A at first. If you feel confident in using button A, add button B as well.
Practise the use of the tone at the beginning of the speech or at the end of the speech.
Practise by reading poems or texts aloud
When speaking, try to maintain your normal facial expressions and gestures.
 Try to stay loose and relaxed, especially in the neck and shoulder area.

Application points are the places on the throat, floor of the mouth
or cheek that allow sound to be transmitted through the tissue
when the SERVOX
®
digital XL speech aid is applied.
Skin folds, scars, beard hair or clothing between the speech aid and
the skin can affect the sound quality. The sound should be clean and
without noise, such as humming. The optimal application point is
the spot that lets the sound through best.
In order to find the best individual application point, the speech aid
should be placed in front of a mirror at all application points and
tried out.
To try out the sounds, the mouth should be opened slightly and
a long stretched vowel such as a long "AAAA" should be spoken.
Tones can be varied by changing the pressure with which the
digital XL speech aid from the application
