mente agua destilada. No supere la referencia "MAX",
ya que el nivel aumenta durante la recarga.

PELIGRO
La batería emite gases explosivos; mantenga cigarri-
llos, llamas y fuentes de chispas lejos de la batería
misma. Al activar o recargar la batería, asegúrese de
que la ventilación sea adecuada.
– Si se carga la batería de manera excesiva o insuficien-
te, o si la se deja descargada durante un largo periodo
de tiempo, se puede dañarla. Estas condiciones contri-
buyen además a reducir la duración de la batería. Aun
en las condiciones normales de utilización las presta-
ciones de la batería disminuyen tras 2-3 años.
– La recarga de la batería restablece los valores nomina-
les de la tensión.
La rápida bajada o el agotamiento precoz de la tensión
pueden resultar de:
• sistema de recarga defectuoso o incorrecto (valor de
tensión y/o tiempo de recarga excesivos);
• estado de desgaste de la batería (elementos de la ba-
tería en cortocircuito);
• largos periodos de sobrecarga (interruptor de encen-
dido dejado durante largos periodos en posición "
con motor apagado).
• sobrecargas repetidas (utilización repetida del pulsa-

dor de arranque "
" en caso de dificultad de arran-
que).
• mantenimiento inadecuado de la batería.
– Antes de buscar las averías en el sistema de recarga,
asegúrese de que la batería sea utilizada correctamen-
te y sea sometida a un mantenimiento regular. Com-
pruebe si la batería está a menudo en sobrecarga, por
ejemplo si se dejan encendidas las luces durante lar-
gos periodos de tiempo con el motor apagado.
– La batería se descarga automáticamente cuando no
se utiliza el vehículo. Por esta razón, recargue la bate-
ría cada dos semanas para prevenir la sulfatación.
– El llenado de una batería nueva con electrolito produce
tensión, pero a fin de obtener las prestaciones máxi-
mas es siempre aconsejable cargar la batería. Ade-
más, si se carga la batería al inicio de su utilización, su
duración será mayor.
– Para controlar el sistema de recarga, aténgase siem-
pre a las indicaciones dadas en pág. 174 (CIRCUITO
DE RECARGA Y ALIMENTACION GENERAL).

Make sure that the fluid level is included between the
two "MIN" and "MAX" notches stamped on the battery
side.
Otherwise:
Unscrew and remove the element plugs.
Top up with distilled water only. Do not exceed the
"MAX" mark, since the electrolyte level increases dur-
ing the recharge.
Top up by adding distilled water.

The battery gives off explosive gases; keep ciga-
rettes, flames and sparks away from the battery. Pro-
vide adequate ventilation when operating or recharg-
ing the battery.
– The battery may be damaged if it is charged excessive-
ly or insufficiently, or if it remains down for a long peri-
od. These conditions also reduce the life of the battery.
Even in normal conditions of use, the battery perform-
ance levels decrease after 2-3 years.
– The battery recharge restores the voltage rated values.
Rapid voltage drops or untimely exhaustion of the volt-
age may be due to:
• faulty or wrong recharge system (excessive voltage
value and/or recharge time);
• battery wear (battery elements in short circuit);
• long periods of overload (ignition switch left in position

" with engine off for long periods);

• repeated overloads (repeated use of the start push

button "
" in case of difficult start);
• improper battery maintenance.
– Before looking for troubles in the recharge system,
make sure that the battery is used correctly and is reg-
ularly serviced. Check if the battery is often overload-
ed, for example if the lights are left on for long periods
with the engine off.
– When the vehicle is not used, the battery automatically
runs down. For this reason, it is advisable to recharge the
battery every two weeks, in order to prevent sulphation.
– The filling of a new battery with electrolyte produces
voltage, but it is always advisable to charge the battery
to obtain the best performance levels. Furthermore, the
life of the battery will be longer if it is charged at the be-
ginning of use.
– To check the battery recharge system, always keep to
the instructions given at p. 174 (RECHARGE AND
GENERAL POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT).
