7.4.2.3 Counter Mode 2 – Continuous Counting and Non-Retentive
The counter can work in two modes, count up or down, selected through the counting
direction input. When in count up mode, input pulses will increase the counting value
until reaching the programmed value, thus turning on the counter output contacts when
the counting value is equal or higher than the programmed one. The counter continues
increasing even after reaching the programmed value. When in down counting mode, input
pulses will decrease the counting value until reaching zero, thus turning on the counter
output contacts. In both cases, to turn the output off it is necessary to activate the reset
input or invert the counting direction. In case of de-energizing, the counting value will not
be maintained. In this example the counter C01 will count the digital input I06 pulses. The
counter output contact will keep active when the counting value is equal or higher than
20. The counting value exceeds the programmed value reaching 21.

When the PLC is energized, the initial counting value will depend on the counting direction.
If the direction is up, the counting value will be 0, if down, the counting value will be the
same as the programmed value.
7.4.2.4 Counter Mode 3 – Fixed and Retentive Counting
The operation is the same as in the Counter Mode 1, but after a CLIC-02 de-energizing,
the counting value will be saved. When CLIC-02 is turned on again, the last value saved
will be loaded again to the counter keeping its condition unchanged. The other functions
and features are the same as in the Counter Mode 1.
In case STOP occurs on CLIC-02 without de-energizing, the counting value will be
reset following the counting direction. To avoid this, the system option "C Retentive"
must be enabled, so that the value is maintained even with a STOP command without
de-energizing.
