7) If adjustment is necessary, loosen the valve adjusting lock
nut while holding the valve adjusting screw with a
screwdriver or equivalent tool.
1
8) Insert a feeler gauge between the intake/exhaust side valve
2
adjusting screw and the valve stem.
9) Adjust the valve clearance by turning the valve adjusting
3
screw.
4
10) After adjustment, tighten the lock nut to the specified
torque while holding the valve adjusting screw with a
5
screwdriver or equivalent tool.
TORQUE: 23 N . m (2.3 kgf . m, 17 lbf . ft)
6
11) Recheck the valve clearance. If the measurements are out
7
of the specification, readjust the valve clearance.

12) After adjusting the valve clearances of the No.1 cylinder,
turn the pulser rotor counterclockwise by increments of
12
o

and bring the piston of each cylinder to the top dead
center of its compression stroke.
13
Repeat the procedure from step 7 through step 12.
• Turn the alternator rotor counterclockwise. Never turn it
14
clockwise.
• To bring the piston of the No.2 cylinder to the top dead
15
center of its compression stroke, align the "T " mark on
the cylinder head with the "2
16
To bring the piston of the No.3 cylinder to the top dead
center, align the "T " mark on the cylinder head with the
"3
" mark on the pulser rotor.
17
13) After adjusting the valve clearance on each cylinder, install
18
the cylinder head cover and tighten the seven 6 x 35 mm
flange bolts to the specified torque (P. 9-30).
19
TORQUE: 12 N . m (1.2 kgf . m, 9 lbf . ft)
20
14) Install the fuel strainer stay on the cylinder head cover, and
tighten the two 6 x 14 mm flange bolts securely (P. 3-9).
Install the fuel strainer [low pressure side] on the fuel
strainer stay (P. 3-9).
15) Set the main wire harness on the cylinder head cover and
connect the breather tube (P. 3-9).
16) Install the following parts.
- Ignition coil/regulator/rectifier (P. 18-23)
- Alternator cover (P. 7-2)
- Engine cover (P. 4-2)
